When matron comes in with that bottle and rubber tube you'll be running so fast you'll have forgotten all about the knee, so yes! the thought of an enema could do you good!

But an enema would cure you. Particularly the high clonic one. After all the rich and famous pay silly for this, so it must be good for you!
Hope your knee gets better with the physio

Haven't done one of those in donkey years used to be standard prep for any bowel surgery. Times have moved on thankfully.
Wonder how many bowels were perforated due to those high clonic bowel washouts.
Always hated doing them to patients.

    I suspect the patients weren't over-joyed.

I've had the Channel 4 camera team up there a couple of times in recent years. The actual procedure isn't too bad as you get knocked out over here - but the preparation OH MY LORD!!!! Two days of drinking this vile liquid that REALLY washes you. My arse was in tatters afterwards! It's like passing sulphuric acid or something similar - just guessing you understand.

    VERY, VERY UNPLEASANT.

And the effects afterwards - Frank Whittle would have have proud. The amount of 'thrust' I was producing actually moved the bed, which was on castors. Then the Doctor showed me pictures of my plumbing - squeaky clean he said.

I doubt they were Biglad , the modern methods are kinder. The effects are the same you just don't have to have a massive amount of water passed up ( quite high in your colon).
Was difficult to do as you had to make sure the temperature of the water was within a very small acceptable range. If outside that range the effects were incredible disastrously painful for the patient ( I'm a retired RGN btw). Not to mention the damage that could be done to the bowel itself.
As to gas , yes you will produce a lot along with not going very far from the loo for several hours afterwards.
I would rather give the liquid forms of prep to a patient than subject them to a high pass enema.
I had bought my own white wellies as well, the NHS didn't really want to supply you with them.
Not much fun walking around in shoes that smelt of ....... All day.
Tended to do those early in the morning so that the effects wear wearing off come night time.

Things have moved on , even pico lax isn't used to the same extent. There are more modern bowel preps out there.
Sadly some of the old ones are still used and there effects aren't mild. Some doctors/radiologists are living in the dark ages.
It's not always the doctor that prescribes a particular treatment.
Thankfully high pass colonic enemas are rarely done now. Unless of course you are into detoxing and don't mind some bueaty therapist giving you one ( don't forget it's normally the realm of the stupid , famous and rich that take this option )
