Hi and happy New Year to all. I am new to the biking world and have a beautiful Bonneville T100. I am thinking of changing/upgrading the tyres. In anticipation of some trips that I plan to make, I was wondering about putting some dual purpose tyres on such as the Heidenau K60 Scouts. Any thoughts, comments, recommendations regarding those or similar tyres on a T100?

Hi Mark, first of all welcome to the Triumph Asylum - Nursie will be round soon with your 'Meds' !!!

As to your question about tyres : unless you envisage travelling a lot of distance on deep muddy tracks I would give dual-sport tyres a wide berth. They prejudice the quality of on-road security and riding pleasure significantly.

Some peeps mount them on their bikes for 'hipster look' - OK if that's your bag, but it'll make your Triumph ride like a bag of crap on tarmac.

I had a T100 for about 5 years and during that time I changed the std fit Lasertecs for Avon AM 26's and over nearly 5 yrs and 25,000 kms they were perfect. Great grip wet or dry on road, surprisingly good traction on gravel tracks and lasted really well.

Hi there and many thanks for the quick response. I have the standard Metzelers on board at the moment and they are still in new condition and so no need to change them. It is covering tarmac as well as gravel (rather than proper off-road) that I am interested in; the Avons you mention sound good options.

All I can tell you Mark is that the Avons, were comfortable, confidence-inspiring and lasted really well. Plus they looked the part on the bike, with T100 sizes readily available at a price very reasonable - LOADS better than the Metzelers imho.

Your Metzlers are fine but the Avons are better.

I've recently swapped my worn Metzlers and opted for the Avon AM26 and they are, as already pointed out, a fantastic tyre.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Avons are a good choice for the Bonnie.

Thanks all for your various welcomes to the Forum (great to be a part of the Triumph crowd!) and for the advice regarding tyres. I now know what to get when I swap out my current Metzelers. Mark
