Apparently the side stand is on the left to suit right handed people who are the majority, otherwise they would be on the left for left drive countries & the right for all those that have it wrong!
Bad Billy, Check with Sandi T on that one. This came up before and I thought it would save Americans from stepping on the Highway to mount their bikes if the stand was on the right. Ken.
Yes mate, that was what I was getting at, but it seems universally the stand goes on the left. As an experiment try getting on your bike from the right, I'll bet it feels more than a little weird , even if you are a leftie (handed that is, not suggesting you are Jeremy Corbin!)
Just been googling, few different ideas for why it’s a Corbin side stand. Cheers,Ken. Ps. Ya might be onto something there....might have to change its name from kick stand to “Corbin Stand”
Motocops in the states mount and dismount from the right side for safety reasons. It is the non-traffic side when they have someone pulled over.
Having ridden horses growing up and always mounting from the left and same with riding bicycles, I can't imagine it feeling anything close to right or normal to get on from the righthand side. I'll just park further off the highway or be well on my guard if an emergency arises!
What he said. Cops are often injured and sometimes killed exiting their vehicles. Happens a lot here in Florida where the unofficial freeway speed limit is 85 m.p.h.
