I believe it's a Matchless 350 single. It's my dad's, taken before I was born!! I thought it may be early 60's but there seems to be a tax disc with 58. Taken in Ceylon
Great picture there Garfield. Wonderful family souvenir. I notice your Dad is wearing all the mandatory hot climate motorcycle protective gear. Shorts - check Short sleeved shirt (kevlar of course!) - check Flip-flops - no flip-flops
Nice piccie! Hard to tell if it is a 350 (G3) or a 500 (G80) as they are pretty much the same bike ... the 350 has a 72mm bore as opposed to the 500 having a bore of 86mm, both having the same 85.5mm stroke. (Details as per Classic Bike Guide buyer's guide ... I'm not that clever!!). Tall engine though!
BigLad, Can't believe you spotted he wasn't wearing his protective flip-flops. They were sticklers for Health + Safety in those days.
God that takes me back,I had a Matchless 350 in 1970, wish I still had it now. I could never get it running properly and gave it away ( I was given it free in the first place, that never happens these days, lol) , I know a little more about engines now than i did at 16 and am sure i could have got it running today
