Got this 2000 Daytona 3 weeks ago off eBay, trailered it from Just outside of Birmingham back to South Wales and made a start getting it back up to scratch. Turns out the owner had owned it for 10 years and around 4 years back spent £855 getting it serviced and running right then laid it up, only to cover another 100 miles in the next 4 years back and forth in his private lane! Not sure what sort of service it was even though it mentioned lubing pivot points (???) as the rear suspension was non existent. This was what I found when eventually got the sleeve out of the swingarm! After purchasing a spare arm good nick I swapped everything over and it now looks like this. Rear wheel off to powder and the rear hub, shaft and caliper stripped and lubed up. This was within 2 or 3 days of getting it.
Cheers fella, got plenty more details to update. The hugger was damaged and I'm not a lover anyway so the bad was cut off and little plastic welding to repair some damage, then a stainless bracket and a few stainless bolts tidied it up. I found some mesh in work so made so fake air intakes. Followed by some plastic welding repairs got it looking like this. Then a new gear shift rubber..... More to come yet.....
Bought a load of stainless cap heads to dress up the engine..... Then mopped some more plastics and put some R&G EZ grip on the impact areas (which were marked anyway and touched up)..... Followed by my CNC levers... Then my wheel came back from powder coat....saw it looking like this. That's a condensed post really but it's where we are just now.
Wow that's a fantastic intro to the forum there mate - really good work you've done. Does it ride yet ?
Welcome to the forum. That's a lot of good work there - good pictures keep them coming. Of course it's the correct colour as well!
Nice work, nice bike, did a similar thing with a 2000 model Speed Triple a few back 5 or 6 years ago, end up keeping 2 years and selling it for much more than I bought it for, not often that happens.
Great work and to quote Biglad "What an introduction" to this forum definitely gets you browney points and extra med's, keep up the good work spot on
Cheers guys, what a great place. I did the same with a £200 CBR1000F and sold it for £1300 then £700 worth of SV650 which I sold for £1300 and a Grands worth of R1 which I sold for £2500. All had similar levels of work and made me £200-£500 profit after getting to use them. I enjoy a project. Before After Before After The R1
Still lurking in dark corners!! But I think you may have guessed that! And still a TT regular reader, if not too active. But it's nice to keep in touch. So I will!!
Great to see what you have done, some really nice work there, thanks for sharing. And a warm welcome to the forum.
Got another link pipe from German eBay this morning, just have to sort my hanger. Picked up my mirror mounts from powdercoat this morning. No longer available from Triumph so £20 for both powder coated is superb.
