    Hi,

I have this odd mark on the tank of my new Speed Twin. I've tried wiping it with a damp cloth and some Muc Off Matt detailer but it makes no difference. It can't be a scuff as I noticed it the first time I went for a ride, and it ends neatly at the pinstripe. Also, wierdly a new mark seems to be appearing just to the right!

I've told Carl Rosner and they said they would have a look at its first service. I feel like I'm making afuss but that can't be right on a brand new bike. IMG_20240414_125741415.jpg

I used to get similar marks on the tank of my first Street Scrambler, which had a matt green/silver finish, caused by greasy finger prints. Personally I never bother with fancy bespoke motorcycle cleaners but just use stuff I have in the house. I like Mr Sheen as it's cheap and works.

I tried soapy water with no effect at all, I don't think it is a smudge because of the triangular shape and because it stops on the pinstripe. I'll leave it for the dealer to look at, trouble is once I see something like that I fixate on it.

Look like finger prints, maybe from dealer build up? Shouldn't be there though.

You could try some panel wipe or IPA (isopropyl alcohol, not India Pale Ale) to see if it is something on the surface. If it's a paint defect then it'll need respraying or replacing as you can't polish imperfections out of matte paint as it then just goes shiny

I had the same marks on my matte gray speed triple, used autoglym rapid wax, always removed the marks and didn't change the paint, no shiny bits.Bike was immaculate when I eventually sold it.

Interesting, that seems to be a Carnuba based wax that you'd expect to use on a gloss finish.

Yip that's what I thought but was assured by owners of matte finishes that it wouldn't change the appearance, and thankfully it didn't, spray on and wipe off with a microfiber cloth, perfect result, I will attach pic of the product. 17131859988955315789735288674194.jpg

I tried cleaning them with a paint preparation wipe but again, no difference whatsoever. I think they are blemishes within the paint itself so will be asking for a warranty claim unless the dealer can do something magical..

The nice chaps at Carl Rosner agreed it was a paint defect and I have a brand new tank waiting to be fitted under warranty!
