100% not legal, I would like to see how many points you would get if caught even having it fitted, nevermind being caught using it.

It's going to be the same fine & points as having no plate fitted at a guess?

It's like if you fit a small (non legal) plate you will get the same fine if it is 6" x 4" than you will if it's 1 inch square, it's just you will get pulled a lot more often with the 1 inch square one.

That's because they know he will pay the fine, whereas a thief can get away with paying nothing.

Well back in the early 70's I got a £2 fine for not having a front number plate on my Suzuki 250 so I suppose you could use that as a guide. It was about 2 weeks before front number plates were abolished though. Yes, police and court time has always been put to good use.

Sometime back in the '80's, MCN did an article on a guy who was making flip up No. plates, "not for road use". He had a visit from the Police but they couldn't actually stop him from making and selling them. A Police spokesman said that anyone caught with one on their bike, in use or not, would be "prosecuted to the full extent of the law" as, in their opinion, there was only one reason you would fit one. Can't remember what fines, if any, applied back then but things are different now. With increasing reliance on electronic traffic policing, cameras, ANPR etc, courts take a very dim view of such devices/practices.
