Mr. Sandi and I watch The Marksman this evening. Much of it was set in southern Arizona (allegedly) so that was pretty interesting. It's a Liam Neeson movie and was certainly cut from the same cloth as most of his films. It wasn't particularly memorable but, that said, I enjoyed it quite a lot and it was an enjoyable way to spend the evening.

Nine Perfect Strangers. So far there are only four episodes out and we watched them all in two evenings and are now awaiting a new episode each week. So far we're really enjoying it.
Watched "THE HUNT" the other night. Available (free) on Amazon PRIME, it's a film from 2012 starring Mads MIKKELSEN ('Le CHIFFRE' in the Daniel CRAIG version of Casino Royale) as a children's school employee who gets caught up in a storm of outrage when accused of child sexual abuse. I won't go into a detailed description of the film - it might spoil the way that the plot unfurls and the outcome - but it is very definitely a story of our times. It's not exactly an "easy" watch and opens up a number of issues around an uneasy subject - not least, of course, the central topic, but also unspoken lessons in how children should (or should not) be interviewed; how investigations of this sort of issue should (or should not) be handled, and how the presumption of guilt or innocence can and does have huge ripple effect consequences. MIKKELSEN is, plainly, a fabulous actor and his performance in this film is outstanding - sincere, empathetic and wholly credible - but perhaps the stand-out performance is by Annika WEDDERKOPP, the young girl playing Klara, the child caught up as victim/accuser. How on earth they managed to get a child of that age to be so convincing is just astonishing. It's not an easy watch. It's not a very enticing or exciting subject but it IS extremely well acted and is, unfortunately, an important fictional representation of an all too real fact of life. Note - the film is a Danish production and is almost entirely in Danish with English subtitles.
I gave up on Hollywood years ago. I watch a lot of indie shorts and fan films on YouTube as well as documentaries, reviews and tutorials. These indie pieces are getting better and better every year as technology improves. Some of them are quite impressive. The latest one I sat through is "Dusty Faces." An admirable lower-budget series about a Wehrmacht PLT on the Eastern Front, '43-'45. This a German produced, German acted series that humanizes the characters portrayed and strives for historic accuracy. If you are at all easily offended whose feelings may be hurt by 3rd Reich imagery or the notion of Germans being portrayed as the (God forbid)protagonists, dont bother. This is ep. 1 of 8 so far. Whole thing's about 3 hours.
I enjoyed the Equalizer with an aging Denzyl Washington. Was surprised to see our own Martin Csokas playing a convincing Russian gangster

Mr. Sandi and I just started watching the series, The Blacklist, this evening at the (repeated) urging of my little brother. We are utterly and completely hooked! We watched the first three episodes of the first (of eight, glory be!) seasons and I could have been easily convinced to stay up into the wee hours of the night to watch three more. I see binge-watching in our immediate future.
Watched this the other night. Not bad despite Neeson being in it. The highlight for me was Kathryn Winnick, otherwise known as the gorgeous sexy Lagertha in "Vikings". Will always light up any film.
Watched "Worth" on Netflix last night. Story about how the compensation was going to be and eventually was worked out for relatives of those killed in 9/11. Sounds very dark but was a very good film
That's pretty much how both Mr. Sandi and I felt after we watched Nomadland. That said, I'd still recommend it. And Frances McDormand is terrific in it, as always.
Just tried to watch 'Cry Macho' with Clint Eastwood and yesterday tried 'Black Widow' with Scarlett Johansson. Both are really bad. Clint shouldn't be wearing jeans up to his old age armpits with a cowboy hat, everyone in the film is just bad. A road movie at less than crawling pace. Scarlett shouldn't have entertained a film with just girls pretending to be hard. Do we really need the goodies to be wearing white and baddies to wear black? I expected a popcorn movie but jeez, it's just too boring. I didn't make the end of either of them. Pffft. Over...
Have now finished Norsemen and very sorry they won’t do another series. It tickled my dark funny bone. Absolutely hilarious and cringe worthy. A Viking version of the Inbetweeners.
