Just finished The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (again), my all time favourite film, in the latest restoration on Blu Ray (Martin Scorsese consultant for the restoration). Best war film and romantic film by a long shot. Deborah Kerr was just so gorgeous. One of the best scenes starts at 3:20 in this clip.
Antman and the Wasp. What a disappointment after the first film. Worst Marvel since Ironman 2. Jokes were lame, lots of discussion on what they were going to do. Just failed
I watched "Man down" on Amazon Prime last night. Fundamentally about the experience(s) of a USMC veteran of an Afghanistan tour of active duty, it has much wider ambition in its plot. The movie has a complicated and contrasting structure - bright colours and lighting switch suddenly to near monotone and darkness in what seems, especially in the early scenes, to be a confused timeline. It's one of those difficult-to-review movies where you're not certain that you've seen a film with a message or have simply seen a message in the film you watched. The statement messages that precede the closing credits are probably a better clue and, for me at least, confirmed the "more thought provoking than entertaining" purposes perhaps underlying the movie's creation.
"The Cloverfield Paradox" - what a bunch of poo !!! I'm a big Sci-Fi fan and I found this dreary, slow and boring.
Swimming with men. Rob Brydon formula comedy, but quite enjoyable. Think full monty, but soft southern poofters synchronised swimming comedy. I laughed, which is quite rare, so that is to its credit.
Just looking through this and saw Life and Death of Colonel Blimp that leads me onto, which means you almost certainly like (as do I)
Blade runner 2049 - if that's the future - god help us. Wasted over 2 hrs would rather have my teeth pulled.
Aw mate, gutted I’ve recorded to watch tomorrow. Do you like the original? If you don’t I might be safe to still watch
