I was sort of overwhelmed by the responses to my request for name ideas for my new bike. Variations and "Bonnie" were common, but appreciated. Male names just seemed odd for me. She is one hell of a motorcycle. I love strong women. So, "Churchill" and the like were out. There were many variations on "Blue." "Bluella DeBonneville" from Marty Wilson was clever. "Salt" from JTC was a contender and I may still use it somehow. Timothy Peters was right on when he suggested, "Bike." No doubt I will refer the bike, as Bike now and then. In the same vain Triumph900 was there with "Motorcycle.": But, I have decided on "Skye." Sure, there is blue sky, and other plays on the sky, but note the spelling. The Isle of Skye is one of my favorite places on the planet. I'd live there if I could figure out how to earn a living. But, there is another reason. The puppy in the photo was named Skye. She is dead now. Our dogs now are Talisker and Cloudberry, both Golden Retrievers too. The bike our beloved Skye is in is my 2002 Bonneville America. Somehow, it just seems right to name the new bike Skye after a dog who was, until the very end, true blue.
Excellent choice, David! And thanks for the whole backstory on how you selected a name plus the sweet photo of your beloved Skye.
Ah sure Skye is a name I can't argue with myself. S'e ainm gu math Ceilteach a th'ann! (That is a very Celtic name!)
JTC, salt was truly a genius suggestion. Did you know my other bike is named “Pepper?” Thanks for all the kind words.
Thanks so much. I did chuckle at your original suggestion. But I feared ever Dalmatian around would chase after me.
I enjoyed telling it. But, even more I am appreciating the good words from folks follow the post. Thank you.
That's a beautiful story and beautiful picture. Glad to see that you used my map and finger method to name the bike though surprised that you had used that method previously to name your gorgeous dog Skye?
