Hi All, I have some questions about my next bike. When the lockdown is over, I'm ready to pull the trigger. First a bit of background to explain how the ST 955 is on my short list. I have allocated a small budget, around 3500 euros (+ 3000£). I'm short, 1,72m, and at 50 years old, I'm not an athlete anymore (well .. never been). The bike should be able to travel with 2 + luggages, low seat, not too heavy, and fun to ride. Considering all those parameters, I could look at Honda Deauville, or Pacific coast, but those are a bit too quiet for me. The sprint ST 955 ticks all boxes on the paper, but I'd like to have a feedback from real owners. My only reserve is the riding position, the idea would be to put some handlebar risers, and a higher windscreen. Any thought? Are they some years of make to avoid/prefer?
Is that a confort improvement, or to lower the seat height? (sorry if the question sound stupid, never had any gel seat)
Hi Hubaxe, nothing to do with your bike choice, but do you believe the 'lockdown' in France is over ?????? Cdlt Dave
Hi Dave, The high peak is expected for monday. The current lockdown runs until 15th of April. Then the probability of the end of lockdown is weak. The medical advisors tend to extend the lockdown until beginning of May, then we have a good chance to start a progressive unlock (by region, likely after a global testing), to keep only infected people in quarantine. The main issue will be to avoid a second wave of infection. Hubert
I've found some ST1050 in my price range, I was wondering about the rear seat extra height, and the riding position that seems less comfortable ?
Hi hubaxe. Have you considered a Tiger ? I've had a couple of sprints in the past but changed to Tigers for better comfort. They are a bit tall but can be easily lowered by changing the drop links. Personally think the headlights were better on the 955i sprint. The 1050 changed to those horrible projector things. Design over function.
Changed my sentence in correct english. thanks for spotting that to me Well , I've considered the Tiger, one of my neighbour got the 1050 Tiger and even lowered it's still too high for me. And the weight is set high too. And to be honest, I really like the sport aspect of the ST. I agree with you about the headlight that was nicer on the 955.
You may have illuminated my search In a couple of minutes I have a phone rendez vous a guy that advertise a 1050 ST with a little 55000 km in my price range.
2005. ABS model. Cons, no luggages apart an ugly top case, Brake pads need a change, Tires to change soon.
Yes mate, quite agree. The ST is a lovely sporty ride The sprint GT has a fabulous engine. I changed to tigers because of an ageing aching body, neck pain mostly. Good luck with your search.
Could find some on our french gumtree equivalent. Talked with the guy on the phone, seems honest, do not hide any default, he also sent some detailed photos. The bike has a clear history and smells like a fair bargain. Minor scratches on the fairing, both sides, the bike is maintained by a well known shop. I'm really tempted to make a serious offer to freeze the sale.
Silver.. I know it's not as fast as a red one.. Offer accepted by the way. I'm officially the future owner of a 1050 ST ABS for under 2600GBP.
I had a 955i the RS and would still have it if I had bought a gel seat its a comfort thing. AS @Smilinjack said the plastic tank has its own concerns with bubbles in the paint which requires a lining of the tank and a repaint.
I have a Sprint GT (very similar) and love it. The only thing I don't get on with is the largely unreadable speedo (forget trying to see the km/hr scale). But overall, it does everything I want. And it was a lot of bike for the money.
Now I have to wait for 2 - 3 -more ?? weeks to put my hands on this bike. Time to order brake pads, oil filter, air filter, and find suitable luggage. It's a kind of bet buying a bike only with photos. At that price I think it's worth the game.
The 3 cylinder is more expressive? Honda V motors like high rev. The triumph torque curve looks pretty good on the paper. Can't wait to ride on!!
