Afternoon everyone, I currently live in Northamptonshire and now retired after 50 years at sea so now have plenty of ‘ride’ time. I currently own a 2015 Tiger 800 XRX in blue and ride with friends (Fossil Riders) once week and like to bimble on my own. I’ve ‘done’ Europe (!) over the years so just enjoy the local countryside.
So now for the big question, I’ve ridden a Speed Twin and am smitten, could I live with it as an revelry day bike in place of the ST. Opinions would be welcome, I do have a thick skin

Hi Capt and Welcome to the Forum

If you're smitten after riding the Speed Twin why do you care what anyone else thinks? Have another go, see if you can blag it for a whole day, then if you still feel the same ... as Nike say ... JUST DO IT! :imp::imp::imp:

Welcome Cap’n :grinning: I’d have thought the Speed Twin would be an easier bike to handle; lower, more nimble etc. Though you do have the issue of no fairing. Ultimately, you want to go and test ride to know for sure, and only you will know whether you prefer the Twin.
Of course, you’d be right to ignore me cos I haven’t ridden either of them :p

Agree with Bad Billy. If it floats your boat go for it. And welcome to the Family. We will need pictures to calm us all down. Helps nursey administer our meds. Plus we asylum member do like pictures easier to read.
    Ride Safe & Enjoy

Without a doubt you will enjoy a countryside bimble more on the Speed Twin than on the ST for the following reasons:

    1. The ST is OK but the Speed Twin is BEAUTIFUL !

    2. Everywhere you ride the Speed Twin you'll catch everyone's eye - it's a classic Triumph !

    3. The 1200 motor is a peach really smooth and grunty, with a great exhaust sound, as std.

    4. The riding position on the Speed Twin is more upright giving you a great platform to enjoy the countryside and relax.

    Hope that helps,

    Dave

Hi Captainjm, welcome to the site, I just got myself a Speed Twin around 3 weeks ago, and am absolutely loving it, really comfortable bike to ride, handles really well (scraping the pegs already) and the 1200 engine provides plenty grunt, all this on top of it being a beautiful machine, the only downside for you maybe be the fact there is no wind protection (if you have been used to riding a bike with fairing or screen?) Go for it mate pretty sure you'll have no regrets

Thanks for all the opinions and advice. Went to the MCN Festival at Peterborough today and had a sit on the Speed Twin again. Really looks the dogs bits. Spoke to a guy whose just bought one and the only problem was the original seat, he changed to optional comfort quilted one and so much better. Tanks a bit small so range could be better but I’m going to go with the old ticker instead of being Mr sensible so speed twin here we come . That’s after my trip to the homeland and the NC500 ride safe everyone
