Hi all what you payin for your insurance and who are you with...
When I got my Speed I ended up paying an excess as it was not on the insurance register of bikes.
My original insurance company for my superduke could / would not insure me for the speed..:frown:
I ended up doing a specialist search for a modified bike which bought back the grand total of 4 results!!!
MCE were offering the best package of a bad bunch which I ended up going for, but even when I called them and explained; the policy increased in price!!!!!

I have ended up paying approx £460... Which is the most I have paid for insurance for a long time....

    Gsxr1000 was circa £350
    Superduke was circa £200
    Street triple was circa £150.....

Having a special is not so special in the eyes of the insurance rip off merchants...

But I will say 1 thing though, MCE's claim of any bike and rider is at least correct...

2012 Speed Triple ABS standard £150.00 fully comp, 6 years NCB 48 year old. Bike in a Locked garage overnight. Modified bikes and insurance is a right minefield! A mate told his insurance company mid policy that he had fitted some panniers to his v strom ready for a trip to France. They told him the mod was not acceptable and that he would need to cancel his policy and take out a new one.

What about fitting carbon bling on your bike...... It's now modified! What classes as modified? Adding a sat nav ? Tank bag? I know exhausts do but what about re-mapping?

Yep mine is in a brick garage locked up... mine is modified due to the paint work... The Dark was not on any insurance registers when I got it hence the pain I had to insure... Hoping it will go down next year...
Anything added to you bike is modified in the eyes of the insurance company...
It will either add value or increase performance which will null and void your policy... It all rubbish and any excuse to get out of paying....

And 43; full no claims a well, but 3 points.....

Beats me how a paint job can double or treble your insurance premium, same engine in your bike as in my bike.

The mrs (42) only passed her test last year, bought a brand new Street Triple 675 and still managed to get insured fully comp for £160.00 just do not understand how insurance companies work

Could you not have just insured it as a Speed Triple R?

I did think about that Richard... But if god forbid I did have an off they would have argued the toss and I would have lost out.. Trying to be fairly honest...( not going to mention exhaust or other carbon bits) has cost me and hence why I'm not going to say any more to them.... I thinkmthaynhave enough of my hard earned...

OMFG YOU GUYS MAKE ME WANNA CRY...
My speed was my first bike after ten years out of the saddle....
Unmodified, in a shed, ground anchored, ballistic chain n lock, disc lock, limited to 3000miles £855 FC
which I ended up increasing to unlimited mileage after five months final cost for year £1638.00!!!
And when I bought my DRZ for a grand they wouldn't even add it!! Had to take out a separate premium on that tonka toy!!

Hoping for big discount this year, with 1 year NC and hence the IAM

At least the DRZ is a sensible price... Pretty sure price will drop when you reinsure... They had you over a barrell.. I had to stop my current policy as they would not insure the Speed but I had to pay for cancelling it early....
Like Tax, insurance is the devils spawn....

Bike insurance seems fairly reasonable in the UK. does anyone know of an insurance company that would insure a bike on UK plates to be ridden in France all year round ?
would like to import the bike but its 118 BHP (88Kw) so not legal in France unless on insurance from another country, or is there a way to restrict to 105 BHP ? at low cost!!

Have you spoken to the insurance companies?
Pretty sure you will struggle but worth giving it a try. Let us know how you get on..
My insurance gives me 30 or 60 days a year European cover... but they won't know how many trips i take abroad so cant see how they can tell how long i have been over there, unless they ask for travel details......

My car insurance policy gives me 30 days European cover per year also but each time i go overseas i have to notify them of my travel dates & they email me a confirmation letter of cover as you need to carry this with you in some countries.

Not familiar with French law but do they ask for crank BHP or rear wheel? A bike with a quoted crank BHP of 118 may only be around 105 or less when Dynoed. If you have a Dyno certificate you may be able to get French insurance.
I had to get a 33 bhp Dyno certificate to show a Ducati 620 was restricted for my 18 year old and that was done by a simple throttle stop.
