I find the new bars surprisingly comfortable, no negative issues. Of course the wind screen helps with the upright seating. I just hated the stock beach bar set up. Next will be the floor board kit when I save some cash. I'm not a fan of forward controls. It might look cool but it's a back injury waiting to happen. It causes your spine to take the full jolt. For now I try to be very conscious of my posture so keep my core taught and avoid slouching.
I too have the high bars on my 2018. You are right about the beach bars, they made me slouch. The high bars are perfect for me at 6ft 1.
My old Bonnie had 6 bends, so I love the look and it brings back memories. With a 2” spacer (up and back) and some rotation, I have achieved comfort. I enjoy the position even for long rides after originally slouching forward.
