So I’ve now took the plunge... Ordered Power pack ✔️ Electro plating Ultimate kit (zinc) ✔️ Brick acid (hydrochloric) ✅ De-ionised water ✅ Alligator clips ✔️ the rest I’ve in stock I think... I’m totally new to this process and I’m going to make a fair share of mistakes. @dilligaf now you can watch me get it wrong! But it’s about the Practicality, creativity and fun factor for me not the money. move currently 11 bikes with a good percentage needing restoration.
I watched a demo of a plating kit, which seemed to work very well, at a bike show years ago so I'll be interested to see your results!
A mate of mine used to do his own nickel plating, although he was a chemistry graduate i don't recall it being too difficult. Well, not difficult to watch somebody else doing it, certainly
Didn't even know doing this at home was done - impressed that you're giving a go! Hope it goes well for ya! DS
I’ve a vintage kids tricycle From the 1940-50s that needs a few components plating so the kit I’ve ordered is supplied with Zinc which is good enough for these items for now. Pics to follow shortly...
About 30 years ago I bought a nickel plating kit to do nuts and bolts springs etc on a Kawasaki kh400, I had some very good results, it consisted of a enamel bucket, copper bar to hang copper wire off, green solution, acid to clean nuts etc before they went in the solution, good luck.
I have been thinking about buying one of these kits. My latest project (a Yamaha 3VN1)will need plenty of plating doing as it has been left out in the elements for a few years. Looking forward to see how you get on Cheers Ian
