Just above where you write the text there are a few symbols, the fourth one is to change the text colour.

I've wondered how to use this feature too. I have a bit of a colour deficiency. Does it matter which shade of red is selected. Is it 2 right and 2 down from the colour options ?

When you select @ and the name it goes red if you did it right.
Selecting colours from the chart is just changing colours.
