I just picked up my new Thruxton RS with the ultra-low clip-ons and the fairing already installed but I also learned here, that you can run the bike without issues with the ‘standard risers’. My question is: Does anyone have a picture of the bike with high risers AND fairing installed? Did not find anything in the www... Maybe someone can help? Thanks and greetings, Daniel.
Hi! I was talking about these: They are the standard ones on the Thruxton when she is delivered WITHOUT the fairing. But I have several reports from the forum and a confirmation from my dealer that you can put the fairing on without lowering these! Mine look like this right now: So they are about another 2 inches lower and on the same level as the adjustment screws for the front fork! And I am curious about how the standard ones look WITH the fairing. I don’t want to mess up the design...
Sorry, couldn't find a pic, but I've got an unfaired Thruxton with the low bars and have been parked up next to another with high bars and fairing. The low bars definitely look better, but not so much that the high bars look wrong in any way.
One more thing I learned yesterday from the dealer: if you install the high bars with the fairing, the bike is not roadworthy anymore according to the regulations. Which is probably the reason, why Triumph does not officially advertise the option. At least here in Germany. Don‘t know about UK or elsewhere... So I will see during the next couple of weeks how the low bars work out for me. I‘d actually prefer to leave them, as they are.
So I found what I was looking for and I‘d like to share it with anyone, who joined this thread: That does not look bad at all, don‘t you think?
My decision is made: I will fit the risers as well! It does not disturb the looks of the bike at all and adds quite some comfort to the ride at low speeds.
So the higher clip-ons were installed yesterday. And today I did my first little ride-out. Verdict? Now this bike does not only look absolutely fantastic, no: It also is a sheer pleasure to ride (at ANY speed). I only stopped for fuel. Not for aching wrists... And it is only two inches. If you think about it, it does not seem like much, but it makes all the difference. @steve lovatt , I think in this aspect, you really can compare the NineT Racer with the higher “AC Schnitzer” risers to the Thruxton RS with fairing AND standard risers (which I have installed now!). I have not made any pics yet, but will post them asap... Sum-up: Absolutely great improvement.
Glad it worked out. Did you get numb hands with the low bars at all, I don't get wrist ache or back ache but I do get numbness in my hands. I don't know if changing to the standard risers will help that. I've also got the wider grey grips at the moment so might just try changing them to the standard width grips first. I want to keep the low bars if I can. Cheers
Tony, I guess the blood-circulation to your hands is somewhere disrupted... I only got a tingling sensation in the tips of my fingers, which is a similar indication, but my hands never went numb. Are those the barrel-style grips, you installed? Do you think they helped? Anyway; before you invest a lot of money to raise the clips, you should do a test ride on a standard Thruxton (R, RS, doesn’t matter). It cost me 320,-€ to install the high-risers and for me, it was worth every penny, but you should be sure before dishing the money out... Cheers, Daniel
Great its worked for you. Worth noting that the higher clip-ons are also a bit closer to the rider horizontally, and at a different angle both 'for and aft' and laterally, so there are several factors at play when it comes to comfort.
They are the 'gummy' grips, but not the barrel ones. I've ridden Thruxtons with the standard risers but never long enough to trigger the numbness. Not sure I could wangle a long enough test ride out of a dealer, but might try to on the new RS as that has the same risers. Should be a lot cheaper to fit the standard risers on mine as it has no fairing. Now that you mention the barrel grips I might try those first. Thanks
Today, I finally took the time to stop and take some pictures with the high risers installed... Enjoy.
I finally had my standard risers put back on. I really liked the low bars, had no back or wrist issues but did get numb fingers. Went for a long ride today and no real numbness, also no feeling of dread whenever I got to a town and had to slow down. I much preferred the look of the low bars and now find the mirrors seem huge somehow on the standard risers. Has anyone got the smaller oval Triumph ones, apparently they are no longer listed for the R or S models.
Can you tell me what Apex clamp size you used? I think it's 52 mm but Apex doesn't have a confirmed install for the Thruxton R and other reports conflict. Thanks!
