9DB4A31B-8794-47CD-A979-EF72ECE440F9.jpeg Hi all a little help and advice is needed please ,I’ve recently bought a used explorer with a outback top box, I’ve noticed it rattles when riding so tonight I removed the top box and the rattling is coming from the metal mounting plate and there is side to side movement. Is this movement normal???

    Cheers

Don’t worry about it’s it’s normal, in fact as it gets older it’ll get louder. It’s called the sliding carriage, google it and all will be explained

Agree, it’d do my crust in if it were rattling all the time, I’d have to sort that somehow and rubber spacers sound the way to go, just make sure the securing bolts tighten properly.

Or you could take the mounting plate off and put the blank back on. Or get another make of top box and mounting system I don’t know if stopping the ‘sliding’ affects the handling or not when the top box is on as it’s there to help it, allegedly

It’s the mount that rattles not the box!

If you remove the box then you don't need the mount - simples!

On my previous Tiger I had the Triumph top box c/w a sliding carriage.
I wanted a larger top box as the Triumph top box was heavy and only 35litres capacity so I took the sliding carriage off, fitted a Givi top box adaptor plate and used a larger Givi topbox that I already had.
No rattling and I didn’t notice any difference in the handling :)

As long as it’s normal I’m sure I’ll come up with a way of making it quite

No point in having an adventure bike if you don't have the panniers :p
