Going on it tomorrow!!! not a cheap excursion, but is a grand day out. Only going on a short sail, Dunoon to Rothesey. Which sailing did you do?.
Hope you enjoyed it, Mr.O. We did Tighnabruaich to Tarbert followed by a trip up Loch Fyne towards Lochgilphead and back again. Decent weather as well (basically, it was dry!) until just before we were due to get off, at which point it hissed it down with full thunder and lightning accompaniment! SWMBO was strangely fascinated by the workings and the scale of the machinery in the engine room. I hope we can do it again sometime. Most of the photos were taken at Dunoon the following Friday, apart from the one of the paddle wheel enclosure which was taken just after we got off after our trip.
Never got Walking from the car to the pier we got soaked, decided sitting inside to keep out rain then sitting in a cafe in Rothesey for 3 hours was not much fun and not worth spending £100 on(4 adults +2 kids). Go I guess to get on this year, maybe from Largs or Ayr.
Shame. But there will be other days. As I said though, it's not cheap so you might as well pick a good day, and both Largs and Ayr are pretty much on your doorstep.
I went on her from Southend pier many years ago . The smell in the engine room is fantastic. Some engineering.
Had an afternoon on her a few years ago in the Clyde fine vessel. It was boats like this that did day trips for the working populations of the Scottish cities where drinking was frowned on enabling them to have a good sup hence the expression 'steaming !' Or so I was told Also had 2 week trips on this baby http://savethepuffer.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/vic32.jpg Coal fired absolute gem skippers as mad as a box of frogs
Was in Inveraray today ! Great wee town, always worth a stop when riding the Oban through Lochgilphead road. One of the best biking roads in Scotland (I say this often, but there as so feckin many !!!), and the air ambulance can get you to the Glasgow hospitals in about 15 minutes!!! Good job really, as loads fall off on the numerous blind-crest-reducing-radius corners the road specialises in
i think its permanently moored there Steve,i didn't think it was THE Vital Spark but apparently it is
