Sump guard fitted. Got to get some CSK high tensile bolts, will pick up tomorrow. First 12 Car this year is next Wednesday, moving up to Semi-Expert class.
Looking good Ron. But what’s with the alli plate, if Dilli had anything to do with the sump guard it would have been made out of 1/2” Mild Steel Durbar Chequer Plate attached to the car with angle iron and square solid bar
No, just the same, do it any car. Just helps to have LED spots, map lights, sump guards, etc. Just helps to protect the car and make it easier to see where the hell your going. As a novice you get the map reference of all the controls, get 1/2 as semi-expert and none when expert. The expert boys have been doing this for 10 years so know all the routes/roads, otherwise it would be impossible, imho.
The only cooling worry is the electronic power steering pump behind the engine. Have plans to get some 3" ducting to provide a cold air feed directly to it. The other modification is to cut holes in the Bulkhead, this then allows air to flow out of the vents at the bottom of the screen. Currently they just let rain and leaves in ???? That or a couple of bonnet vents, or maybe both! The grille modification I did, allows a lot more air into the radiator, as the original is nigh on solid, with just small slats to allow air through, as opposed to the mesh which has to be 4 x the area open.
First event is this wednesday, a 12 Car Rally, map reading and driving like a loony for 2 hours around single track lanes. Think of it as orienteering, in a car. Got 3 of these over the course of the next month or so. Can only do them in winter, when it's dark, so we can see any cicvilians coming the other way, which is unlikely, only met 3 cars in 9 events.
First 12 Car last night. We won our class But, they is only us in the class , but a wins a win Sump guard works, found out a couple of times. Unfortunately it is reduced the clearance under the car, but the suspension lift will cure that. Bit muddy out !
Seat and harnesses fitted tonight. Got an early finish (teacher torture, sorry training day), so needed to do something worthwhile when I got home. Managed to use the original runners, so seat is adjustable fore and aft. Bit of cutting the side mounts to accommodate the mechanism. Lowered seating position by 1", just to increase clearance needed when wearing helmet.
Unless she chips in £500 for seat and harness, YES !!! The seat in mainly for autotesting, she's only driven them in bucket and harness's, so it is for her benefit. In time, I will get a second seat and harness
Here's a wee section from last weeks 12 car. First time doing Semi-expert, so we're struggling a bit. Got this section wrong, but still picked up the last codeboard and found the checkpoint at the end. To my ear, I sound really Scottish , but hearing your own voice is always horrible. Like it when she tells me to slow down !!! Like that's going to happen
Those LED lights help a lot. Actually felt quicker than it looks. I sometimes use that road to get to work, so know it well. As we swung left over the wee bridge, didn't think I was going to make it through !!!
