No more speeding! EU orders that all new cars will be fitted with mandatory technology that will force you stick to EVERY speed limit from 2022
    • New models sold in the EU will feature Intelligent Speed Assistance limiters
    • European Parliament, Council and Commission approved legislation for them
    • Vehicles will be slowed in accordance with speed limits using GPS and traffic sign recognition cameras
    • Models sold in the UK are likely to have the same technology after the Vehicle Certification Agency said it would mirror EU rules post-Brexit
Just spotted this in the wonderful and always 100% accurate Daily Fail

    Probably correct

Its part of what the EU GPS Gallileo project is all about

Should make older stuff worth a fortune assuming you can still buy petrol of course

What will police do with all their “safety” cameras?
How will they get around the loss of prosecutions and income.
Some eurocrat hasn’t thought this through properly! ;)

    Same as my immediate thoughts.

So if this came to be what would the police and government do for funds, what alternative way can they dream up such a lucrative pot of cash?

Perhaps the government and police will start running "tracks" where people who actually enjoy driving and riding (and don't want to be toted around in a self-driving vehicle) can go to go fast and have fun. Of course, we'll be charged to do so, perhaps as a way to make up for the loss of the speeding ticket revenue stream!

And....I live in the U.S. and here anyway what I see as way more problematic these days is the massive number of (so-called) drivers that are texting and talking and watching YouTube on their phones while they are driving. Why that isn't considered as much a problem as speeding is beyond me.

Will only apply to new cars so keep your old car and continue to speed as you see fit!

The Police do not get direct income from speeding fines. It all goes in to a central Government pot at the Treasury. Over £100m p.a. is colected. The Department of Transport is at pains to point out that central Government also allocates roughly the same amount each year to local authorities for road safety programmes.

A similar type of idea was banded about a few years ago for bikes, restricting them to whatever the road speed limit is you were travelling along.

Guess where that stupid idea came from : unamused:

Well I know one thing none of that money goes on road repairs. The road surfaces around Yorkshire, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire is appalling and I suspect the rest of the UK too. Over here in the Netherlands even the cycle tracks are well maintained and potholes on roads are quickly repaired.
I wonder if this new ruling will apply to motorbikes.
I wonder if they’ve thought about having some device fitted to vehicles which monitors vehicle speeds (using GPS) and checks that against speed limits. Then a fine is automatically sent out to speeders.
Over here if you get caught by a speed camera you automatically get sent a fine to your house. We don’t have points on licenses.
