Anyone out there had experience of French speeding fines, my mate just had one (hope there's not one coming my way)
Did you pay it? Ignore it? Challenge it?
Can they do anything if you don't pay?

I love the way enforcing the penalties don’t work the other way round.

I got one within 5 days of returning from The Netherlands. 100e plus 9e admin. I'm going to pay it, because I don't want my bike impounded next time I go there!

They actually took a reduced speed of 54kph ( probably because of speed fluctuations)
So I was 2.5 mph over ffs

I got one coming back from Spain a month back. Just paid the fine. Was only a few mph over the limit bloody annoying. Not as annoying as my mate who got 2 tickets even though he was following me

In the small village I am in here in Spain four of the local English residents had their cars towed away recently for no UK tax or mot and fined but don't know how much.Although they all have been here for over 10 years and not got caught so maybe cost effective after all.

On a recent trip back from Holland, through France, I noticed that every single speed camera had been vandalised. I assume by the Maillot Jeune. If you use "Waze" it will tell you when you are entering and leaving a speed camera zone. Obviously won't work if it is a mobile speed trap.

My brother has had a few tickets in Germany. Bottom line is that you don't have to pay it as they will never pursue you in the UK. However, if you ever did go back to Germany, they have the fine against your vehicle. I assume they have ANPR in Germany, so your car will probably be impounded until you pay. At least it is only a fine, and no points to be paying increased insurance premiums for 5 years.

Ditto from Sicily last year, but apart from going back sometime I didn't fancy having my private parts detached by means of a sharp implement because the local car hire company had to pay the fine....it was Sicily after all:cool::eek:

And anywhere in Europe they see the British motorist an easy target. Good old Brits nearly always pay up. Great for the coffers and wages. Even if you drive exactly on the limit if they see the reg its worth lying to make the pennies and even if they were there clicking on one of their own.
    Regards
    Joe.
