Daniel when you mentioned your absolute favourites I thought you were going to say Klaus hotel, the Zur Post at Klotten remember we spoke about it at GMU, choo, choo.
Well if this were a 'Thomas the tank engine' forum, Klaus' Hotel would be in! (honestly: I would always stay there again, preferably with a room facing away from the railroad tracks. It was a great place for bikers to stay!) And by the way: The Rhön would be a good spot to see when going from the Mosel to the Harz, or vice versa! Here are 2 pics. One taken from my hotel room ( https://rhoenerlebnis.de ) The elongated wooden building you see on the left is a very old bowling alley.
The Rhön is also famous for its moors: This is the Black Moor (Schwarzes Moor) The pathway is for the undead who travel the moor at night. In the daytime it is mostly use by baby carriages and wheelchairs!

I thought it was time someone made a more concrete proposal so here's mine. Meet here :- http://www.bikerhotelgermany.com/ It is in Bad Bertrich in the Eiffel region. I would spend 3 nights here. Then you either go back to your port of choice or travel to :- http://biker-hotel-harz.de/en/your-biker-hotel-harz-mountains-germany/ I would stay here for 4 nights. Then have 1 night stop en-route back to Rotterdam (back to Hull) Both venues are geared up to bikers and will provide routes. It could be beneficial to pair up in some cases and get twin rooms. Northern groups and Southern groups to make their own travel arrangments. Daniel (Winglad) has offered his services in dealing with the hotels. Total nights away for me including nights on ferry is ten. My preferred time to go is late May/early June but happy to go anytime. Comments please ?
I would favour the first option, 10 nights too long for me. May better for me, might need to take wifey away in June. Would be going through Chunnel so is there anyone else willing to tag along & share a room?
As much as I would love to do option 2,google maps says it is 475mls to the 1st destination in Bad B so I would want to stop halfway[like brussels] as I would be going chunnel also and do not want to do more than 250-300mls a day,so I think it will have to be option 1because that will be around 7 days total, but single room for me and late may or early june fine with me.
Hi Andy, sorry mate that wouldn't work for me. After having a quick visit into Italy, I'll be going back there again to get more of a feel for the country.
@andypandy, priced up the ferry from hull? Last time I did it came to £400!!!!! That's two tyre sets or one set and a night accommodation and Dover ferry or a cheap car to learn to drive in!
Hi Eric it's the bit that joins up with France on the Mediterrenean coast. Very mountainous area with brilliant roads.
Yes it's not cheap. You can't get prices for May/June yet but I would expect it to be about £275, less in a shared cabin. It's only 90 miles to Hull for me instead of almost 300 to Dover. That's 180 miles opposed to 600, probably in the rain. Plus Rotterdam is closer to the Eiffel region.
The end of May is only a suggestion. I suggest you suggest an alternative date if you would like to do some of this trip.
Example price Hull to Rotterdam just basics June 4th out June 13th return :- £273 5 day return out June 4th return June 9th £243 Less if you share a cabin by about £98.
The ferry prices are up and down. If we steer clear of holiday days then it's not too bad. We use Rotterdam Hull quite a lot. Did we ever consider the Alsace-Lorraine area of France. It's just on the border with Germany and even looks and feels like it. It's about 5.5 to 6 hours ride from either Rotterdam or Calais. It's beautiful part of the world and easily doable in a day. This would then be a Week holiday and not 10 which might be better for some folks. Just a thought
It doesn't have to be 10. Someone could just stay one night in Bad Bertrich and then go home. My 10 night proposal was just a starting point. I'm just trying to get something going.
