That sounds good to me Dave, perhaps we could have the group photo then also, as wednesday looks to be the most popular choice either at the Royal Oak before we set off or if there is somewhere suitable on the rideout
I offered to lead a rideout several months ago but nobody took it up so I've not done anything about it. If people want I can do something on Thursday, maybe visit a couple of historic POI's and scenic routes ???
I know this might sound selfish......wait for comments!!! But the ride out on weds couldn't be not so North as I will have to travel south just after lunchtime and Id hate to have to do a couple of extra 100 miles?
Current plan is riding down Wednesday, hopefully going on a ride out Thursday with you guys and then up the road on Friday. This is currently depending on family and funds. So any rideout on Thursday I would be definitely going on.
I'm there for Tuesday and Wednesday going home on Thursday. I'll go with the flow, food, beer, photo's or ride out.
Crispy, if you've got a map of some sort I'll try and show you and anyone else who's interested the route that I was thinking about or most of it, some of these roads are the ones I've ridden. Ok here we go. Right out of The Royal Oak to Longnor. Left onto the B5053 through Warslow. Right onto the A523 to Leek. At Leek right onto the A53 towards Buxton. Left at Blackshaw Moor it's a minor road passing Tittesworth Reservoir, Meerbrook to Rushton Spencer. Right onto the A523. Right onto the A54 towards Buxton. Left onto the A537 passing the Cat and Fiddle pub towards Macclesfield. Right onto Bull Hill Lane, think that's what it's called, it's another minor road and brings us out onto the B5470 near Rainow, this saves us going into Macclesfield Town. Right onto the B5470 through Whalley Bridge to Chapel-en-le -Frith. At Chapel-en-le-Frith left onto the A6187 towards Winnats Pass and Castleton Turn left just before Winnats Pass, don't know the road number I think it's another minor road, passing Barber Booth and Edale and rejoining the A6187 at Hope. Right onto the A6187 at Hope. I'm undecided which route to take next maybe right onto the B6049 passing Bradwell. Left onto minor road ? through Grindlow and Eyam, I will have to check that the new road has been completed onto the B6521 to Grindleford. Hope this helps Crispey it's as far as I've got planned to date. Dave.
Happy to go with the flow - but spotted this route in my "Bikers Britain" book. I haven't ridden it and it is only a suggestion (don't want to step on anyone's toes here ) - officially it starts in Matlock but as it runs through Longnor we could pick it up there.
That looks like an interesting run Steve, we've GOT to go to Matlock at some stage !!!!!! On another matter, as we are going to be there in the week rather than the weekend there should be less bike traffic ????????
Ok Dave, Your Route Looks a bit like this on Googly Maps :- https://goo.gl/maps/vWPHEEGgcXy I know it's a bit wobbly, that's me. If you can finish it then maybe I can do it one day before the meet and then on the day I'll act as sweeper up or whatever you think best. If you could possibly leave out Eyam and Castleton though because if I do a ride out on Thursday Eyam would make a good historical interest stop and Castleton maybe a dinner stop(that's lunch for you southerners) Are you planning a breakfast or dinner stop (again that's lunch for southerners) ? I was thinking of a Bakewell Tart afternoon stop on Thursday. Perhaps you would prefer to message me ? Cheers Andy P.S. Is anybody unhappy with any suggestions so far ?
