    squirting back

    a very narrow opening

a conveniently wide hole, in which to stick the nozzle

I like to fill it up

I have to gradually and slowly withdraw

    erupts out

    the nozzle slips

I love it when you talk dirty...

Seriously though...Might be something to the diesel v gasoline thing. Here in the nanny state of New Jersey we are not trusted with pumping our own gas, though most attendants allow motorcyclists to do so. This is probably because they know that if they spill gas on your tank they could be in for an ass-whupping.

Outside of New Jersey gas station attendants always know when a customer is from here, because we tend to stare stupidly at the pump trying to figure out how it works.

The photo of the well cooked bike and gas pump is why I ALWAYS dismount when I fuel up.

It also allows you to confirm that your luggage is not on fire before refuelling...

It does come as a bit of a shock to fill the tank, then dismount to discover you were sitting in front of a fire and that was the reason that people were looking at you in the petrol station :-(

I refer you to my incident on my almost brand new Thruxton. At least BP stumped up for a new jacket and helmet out of it as both were soaked! The attendant helped me throw water over the bike and luckily there was no damage to the bike at all.

I was riding my HD through a restaurant district. The smell of sizzling steak filled the air. There was a bit of smoke wisping about when I stopped at a traffic light. Hmmm...that's a lot of smoke. Wait, that's not steak sizzling. I then noticed that all the smoke was coming my bike! To my horror, I saw the newly installed, leather, tool roll that I had mounted up front, low on the frame, was resting against the exhaust pipe and had caught fire!
Fortunately, I was able to jump off, pull out my pocket knife, cut the leather straps and heave the bag before the bike was damaged. Idiot.

It's more common than you may think, a female driver filled up her car at our local Asda store, she got in turned on the ignition and pressed the start button, WHOOSH the car was engulfed in flames, luckily a young guy behind her car was filling up his works van, he ran over and dragged her out (luckily she had not fastened her seat belt at that point), they both suffered burn injuries, the result was the fireball burned out many cars on the forecourt that were filling up and destroyed much of the area. What she did was put the petrol in the charge point of her Hybrid car by mistake. Fire in the pits at the TT races were one reason quick fillers were banned, the same for F1. Petrol fires with vehicle's on forecourts whilst not an everyday occurrence do happen more than one may think. I have witnessed 3 motorcycles going up in flames after crashing at the TT, thankfully with no fatalities.
