Weigh a ton when wet too... I used to have a 3 mile walk to get the bus to school, (and then 15 mile journey to school) and if it rained, well, you got wet and stayed wet.* Used to have one of the leather jerkins too. They were great! Cost me £3...yoy wouldn't get one at that price nowadays, if at all. *probably goes a long way to explaining the arthritis I have now!
"Army and Navy stores" always good for work attire and even motorcycle gear, like lots of other things they are things of the past, I suppose they have gone online now
Just landed on this fun thread! Such interesting pasttimes out there. My favorites are riding motorcycles, scuba diving, and hanging out with Mr. Sandi and our boxer, Annie. I also really enjoy photography, reading (mysteries and motorcycle books & mags), and cocktails!
I brought back 2 Argentinian helmets from the Falklands in 82. I painted one, to use in fancy dress some years ago, but t'other I left as it were when "liberated" from its original owner. I have it in a box at home, and have recently been trying to get it valued, wi a view to selling it. Any ideas @JerryBB ?
You might be surprised and pics would help, depends if its named and with your service history helps...£300-400 ballpark but without seeing it, condition, does it have a camo cover, exactly what version it is etc...
One of the things I do...My wife and I buy and renovate mountain cabins. We are on our second project since my retirement in 2008. The red one below we sold a few years back and it is now listed on Air B&B. We currently own the green one. I was doing major plumbing work on it until the weather drove us out last fall. We will continue when spring comes. ...J.D.
I served my apprenticeship in an MOD explosives factory in the early seventies and guess what our kit was?............. Yup old army trousers and blousons I have never complained of an itch since that time. Those feckers were 40% scotchbrite and 60% brillo pad
I liked that description, scotchbrite & brillo pad, they should make it convict attire they would soon repent and mend their ways
It's great fun mate. Just being out in the country, wind in your face, hooning after hounds and jumping fences, ditches and hedges...
The places we seem to go back to with regularity are Cozumel and Little Cayman. I've also done a fair amount of live-aboard diving in the Caribbean including Belize and Honduras.. Big trips I've done in the past include Cocos Island, Palau, the Solomon Islands, and Fiji. I've never dived Malta. What's it like, @GaleForceEight?? Mr. Sandi and I had a trip planned in March to Cozumel but because of my stupid bicycle accident we had to cancel that. Well, let me say we had to postpone it. We plan to work on getting back there as soon as possible!
I have an incurable addiction to surfing, it’s taking me as far north as Canada and as far south as New Zealand. Here’s a pic of me in Mexico on a pretty good day
