    I'll kick off...

Well, it was a while ago, but worth sharing, I think.
It was supposed to be a two up trip, but the night before departure I found out that the girlfriend hadn't been as faithful as I would like. So chucked her and her crap out of my house and decided to go alone.

I had made a booking on the train from Den Bosch to Allessandria, just north of Genua. I was going to do a tour of Tuscany, after that I had no plan.

Bike on the train (pre Triumph days, I'm afraid),

Then I got a message on Faecesbook from a friend who lived in Slovenia "you're so close now, why don't you come and visit?'. So I took a right at Ravenna (having crossed that fantastic mountain range (Tuscan–Emilian Apennines) in between Florence and it) and made for Podhorodc.

From there home via Switzerland, Eastern France and Luxembourg.

This is where I stayed in Trun, Switzerland. When I got there I was completely soaked. All my wet gear was put in the boiler room, and bone dry by next morning. The bike was parked inside, through the doors you can see on the right hand side of the building.

Cheers! I had to make my way out of Switzerland through tunnels - all the high passes were closed overnight due to snowfall... I did get to do the Stelvio to Davos bit though. Absolutely fantastic!

Good idea, Dougie. By the way, you would have loved that run from Stelvio to Davos - perfect road surfaces and long, fast swooping bends!

Looks like it was a great trip. Just shows you don't need a bird on the back to have a fantastic time.
Done may solo trips in the past. It's amazing how life can be sorted out on a long trip talking to yourself.

Absolutely. And it's so much easier to connect with folk when you're alone.

Touring via a car or bike just shows you what people that travel by air are missing out. More fool them

Not from Den Bosch anymore, Nikki. It does from Düsseldorf, I think.

On our annual roadtrip to France, this year we ended up riding in 42°C.
It was like riding towards an open oven or a hairdryer on maximum heat!
Riding home there was so little traffic that we raced through France without seeing one cop or speedcontrol. Avoiding all highways we started in the Dordogne region at 8.20 AM, arriving at home (Genk in N-E Flanders) at 02.00 AM the next day after 1.100 km in the saddle!! Heroic!

I think long motorbike trips are a form of meditation. Clears the mind of lots of noise and crap.

Amazing photos and trip ideas in this thread. I need to get a long pass signed by the missus (trouble is I miss her when I'm away, and I feel mean not taking her on the trip, but she won't go on the bike).
