I'm a relatively new owner, bought a 2018 1050RS in matt black last October. Am loving it! I have decided to do a European trip with a couple of mates in late May. Yes, I know, the speedy isn't the ideal tourer but it's that or my 20 year old Fazer thou so the Speedy wins. Firstly, luggage. I'm looking at a Hepco and Becker sport rack that replaces the pillion pad. Hoping that this will take a top box, Givi or Shad. Secondly, screen. I have fitted a Powerbronze fly screen (in black of course) which looks the nuts. I can't find a taller touring screen - of course. Does anyone know if there is such a thing or am I barking mad for planning a 2k mile tour on a Speedy? I'd be grateful for any info/advice/feedback! Cheers in anticipation...
Assuming you can carry enough kit, the speedy will ace a couple of thousand mile road trip. Just go for it.
Thanks, my thoughts entirely! Worst case scenario is bungeeing on a couple of Kriega dry bags but I would sooner take hard luggage if poss.
Did 3,7k km last year in 11 days, only luggage was a saddle bag and a tank bag. Just bring your raincoat, and… GO!!
Clunkie66 Welcome to the family. Great bike for touring. Don't forget to send lots of pictures by hitting the upload button bottom right corner so we feel we are taking the trip with you. Joe.
Nowt to do with luggage exactly but take old/unwanted tatty tshirts and wear then chuck them away as you go along, leaves you extra space for buying stuff, souvenirs etc..
I did NC500 (and 1600 miles total) on the speed rs in 3/4 days, and I definitely recommend https://pyramid-plastics.co.uk/prod...-clear-triumph-speed-triple-1050-rs-2019-2020 and https://airhawk.net/product/cruiser-medium/ As for luggage, I had a sw motech rack and giviV57 topbox (total overkill for that trip tbh!) and it was fine. Enjoy!!!
I got this add on from eBay bolted to the top of my Powerbronze screen. I think it was £13 and does make a difference. Just doesn't look very nice.
Cheers back at you, Clunkie66, and welcome to the forum! As you've already seen, there are lots of folks here with great ideas, lots of experience, and a willingness to share both with others. Have a great time on that trip and, as others have said, please post photos and stories about your adventures. And stop regularly to stretch! I have a Speed Triple, too (2019 RS) and can't quite imagine doing a 2K miles trip on it but I'll be eager to see how you fare.
I Use Kriega Drypacks - for my last tour a 30+10+10. Works great for me. I only did motorways on day one, I found I had no need for a screen. 2K miles in 7 days.
We are off to Assen in June and I think I’m going to invest in some of those Vulpes… I have the R35 Kriega rucksack that I usually take ( we stay in a hotel, no camping!) and pack light . I don’t fancy a rucksack now, with my dodgy back, so these look the way forward to me.
They are brilliant, @Oldskool . Really easy to put on and take off, and excellent qualty. Not cheap, but worth it! Harwich-Hoek van Holland Ferry in June?
I really rate Kriega. They gave me a lifetime guarantee on the rucksack. It is perfect. I speed tested it over the Zuider Zee motorway on the MV indicated 171 and it didn’t move a bit…. Yes Harwich Hoek ferry. We will then go up via Arnhem to pay our respects and visit the wonderful museum at Oosterbeek. Great little cafe next door too. Can you please book some sunshine for us..? And we won’t be speeding this year , the last two times we’ve been over it’s cost us too many euros..
Yep, lots of speed checks around the Assen weekend - Did you not get plastered in bugs hurtling over the Afsluitdijk? I'll try to arrange the sunshine, possibly bring it back from France with me - we're off to the Vosges for 10 days just before... Oosterbeek is great.
Aflsluitdijk…..I knew it was something like that… Nearly got splattered in seagulls….. The cafe at Oosterbeek used to have a massive umbrella outside it. They told us it was to keep the sun off…. Vosges…..just googled that. Looks to be some great roads down there..Have fun.
