I have a 2015 Speed Triple R with dealer fit Arrow end cans, & I've added a K&N air filter. Assuming that the dealer map was installed with the end cans is there any benefit from having the ECU remapped. Hilltop MC's have quoted me £300 post in to have the ECU remapped but I'm just wondering if I'll see a noticeable improvement for my outlay?
I remapped my 2010 Speed Trip myself with an app on my tablet - lead & connector were pretty cheap off ebay (can't remember details & I'm away from home so can't check). It smoothed out the off/on response at low revs that would have made me get rid of the bike. No noticeable difference to the fuel economy & better riding experience all round. It probably cost about a tenth of what you planned to pay and was easy enough to do
I had my 2015 Speed done by Hilltop, posted the Ecu in so I don’t have any before/after graphs to show the improvements but I agree with Littleade and andyc1 you will definitely be able to FEEL the difference. It’s not earth shatteringly better but it is smoother at the on/off phase of the throttle, has more bottom end and midrange and just feels sharper all through the revs. I have noticed a slight improvement in fuel economy too. I initially thought £300 was too much but then HMRC came to the rescue.
Had mine done and well happy. fully documented with graphs and video here https://www.facebook.com/DynoDude/ put my original wheels on for the mapping, then changed back to the carbon ones once done. ( didnt want them damaging )
Do it , or , even go one better ! Take the bike to the tuner ! I had my 2009 Bonneville America Dyno'd last month. The benefits are huge ! My fuel economy has improved significantly, by close to 3 klms ltr , my torque is up by 3 or 4 ft lbs my horse power by 5 ! But the best bit is both torque and HP curves have widened/extended by about 1500 rpm so not only do I get more but I get it for longer ! Curve starts higher (slightly) but continues for longer and drops significantly slower ! Bike starting is improved Too, less time needed to warm up before riding off, my bike handles better in corners , because I now have the power to ride/drive into and out of high speed corners . cornering above 120 kph was not always a comfortable experience ! Now all the nervousness has gone !!! My fuel economy was about 19/20 klms ltr , this has improved now in the vicinity of 23 klms ltr , rode my bike yesterday 333 klms took 15.4 ltr do the maths and that's 22.5 or better and it was raining so was a nervous on off the throttle ride through city traffic ( had medical appointment) no facilities for said medical in Northam (country WA). The tuning of any motor so it performs at it's individual best is well worth it ! Especially nowadays where manufacturer's tune for compliance with pollution and noise emissions laws !
I went to take my ECU off last night to send it for remapping & I can not get the connector undone. Its sandwiched between the airbox & frame, so can not get my hands in. Has anybody got any tricks for undoing the connector without removing the whole airbox?
Wow TC looks like you got similar result to mine ! More torque and HP everywhere and especially up top !!
Hilltop said they get most as drive in or post in so don't take them off. I've given up trying to reach the connector so will have to set some time aside to ride down the 110 miles & make a day of it.
It's worth it, it means you'll also get the map tweaked to your individual bike's set up rather than a generic map upgrade (which is still far better than Triumphs OE maps though....)
Finally got it done. Rode down on Friday, not a bad trip for 110 miles of motorway. Here's the results: 2015 Speed Triple R - K&N Filter, twin Arrow high level cans. Up 3 bhp, (126-129) up 5 ft/lb (69-74). Not a big improvement but a smoother curve. I am surprised my figures for the 2015 model are higher than your 2017 TC...., is that the effect of Euro 4?
You can't compare dyno maps if done on different machines or different days as there will be various differences affecting readouts
The map is way smoother and three ponies up top isn't bad for basically a stock engine ! But it looks like you are up as much as 4 or 5 ponies earlier in the rev range and that's where it really count's because it's usable power ! And it will greatly improve acceleration and make it possible to save fuel , because you can change up at lower engine speeds and maintain road speeds !
That is a great improvement like 30% more torque at low revs I bet if feels a lot better ! I will have to wait for my warranty to end then will definitely consider this .
Interesting - anyone put this to the test ? As I have the new RS engine and already had oil leaks on it I am half expecting some warranty action.....
I will be doing next week, I’m booked in for service at my local dealer. Will leave a note under the seat to inform the spanner monkey not to meddle and ask if he noticed owt different.
So went for the service today and when I picked the bike up I was told by the service manager that because the bike has a custom fuel map there was very little they could do with the bike. (I’d recently changed the oil and air filters etc so asked them just to do an annual service, check the coolant etc). Apparently if the bike hasn’t got the most recent system upgrade they can’t even complete an autoscan and to upgrade the system means overwriting the custom fuel map! They say they’ve had six or seven updates already this year! So I said as far as I was aware the fuel map from Hilltop was written in such a way that the dealer scan couldn’t see it but they were adamant that because the bike would ask for an update in order to allow the autoscan to complete it would overwrite the Hilltop map. (Apparently they have been caught out before with a custom fuel map but were able to rescue the situation by emailing the map supplier) Anyhow, I’ll talk to Hilltop and see what they make of it all and report back.
