I've just bought a dual seat because I wanted to be able to pack a small hold-all onto the back seat and can't do it with the single seat as it will squash the hump. For the life of me I cannot get any bungees straps to fit under the rear frame hoop. I was going to buy some luggage spools to mount onto the top shock mounts, I think the ones that fit the air cooled will also fit the water cooled bikes, but you need a second bungee fiiting point a bit further back. Any ideas, anyone managed to fit a small luggage pack, just to hold some trainers, a few T shirts, pair of jeans and a toothbrush? Cheers.
Have a look at Rok Straps. Much better solution anyway and pretty easy to find some fixing points as they just need to loop round something.
eed I'm still using bungee straps that I probably bought in the 80s. Looked up Rok straps and they might do the job, only worry is there is a big gap between the frame rails and the edge of the seat and don't want to stress the seat sides where the strap tightens against them. Anyway, ordered a set to see if they will work. Thanks.
I can use a cargo net on my 865 Bonnie but cannot get the hooks to fit on the Thruxton1200 frame rails, they have to come out at a right angle to clear the gap between the seat edge and the frame itself so just don't engage properly, and that's if you can even get one to engage at all. Cheers.
No problem, I thought it would be straightforward once I got a dual seat to sit the hold-all on, but the frame rails are so awkward to get any sort of hook around, and if you can get one on the angle makes it impossible to use anyway. It's hard to explain really without photos, but Rok straps might work because they don't have hooks. Thanks anyway.
Another vote for Rok straps here. I did volunteer blood biking for a while and they are the only fixing mechanism they allow you to use. If they can hold a bulky blood box on the back of a bike they can hold anything!
I'm hoping the Rok straps will work on the frame rails without stressing the seat sides too much. I got a dual seat second hand as thought it would be fine to sit a hold-all on but I think this is the 1st bike I've ever had where I haven't been able to rig something up with Bungees. Don't want to splash out another £100 for a Hepco and Becker grab rail if I can avoid it, but already invested now for the seat so might have to. All so I can have the odd weekend away without a back pack, never feel quite right riding with a back pack. Anyway, Rok sraps ordered so will see how they work out. Thanks for the replies.
Rok straps arrived, 16mm wide option, tried lashing down a little hold-all and one broke immediately. Plastic clip broke under very little pressure, other one seems fine.
I got the medium duty ones, 16mm and advertised for use with motorcycles, twice as strong as a bungee strap, etc.. Even the light commuter ones are advertised for use with motorcycles.
