What benefits does a decat provide? Is it just small weight saving and increased noise, can it fail an MOT?

    Thanks

What is the make and model ,year.
Decat in itself will do so much ,2 or 3 HP increase.
In conjunction with SAI up grade and re map possibly 4 or 5 HP increase ,also ( with the remap) the fuelling will be smoother ,the throttle less jerky espacially low down, and many people report an improved experience, and sound .
The effects will possibly be noticeable to the rider at the top end,
    E.G. above 100mph.
What is it you are trying to acheive?
There are more knowledgeable people on here.

What Sprinter said and you don't need a cat for the MOT. It's only a legal requirement for it to be fitted when leaving the shop first time brand new.

Actually and not even then because dealers decat new bikes.

It does increase exhaust sound but I don't think enough to fail an MOT but then again I'm not a tester, :(

No it is the decibel level that fails the ticket. On my 900 bonnie I just left it and removed the snorkel and fitted Norman Hyde cans. It sounds much better and performance was cleaner.

I thought bike came under the same laws as cars regarding cats if it was manufactured with one fitted it has to have one for MOT the MOT laws changed earlier this year, it didn't used to be much of a problem if the CO etc was within limits, cant see why a bike would be an exception?

As for benefits on an N/A engine there is little to be gained that you would notice its turbocharged that it makes the real difference on so unless your looking for every ounce of performance its not worth the bother and expense.

Emissions testing isn’t included in motorcycle mot test, yet!

Interesting, i know they never used to but thought it had changed i know a lot of the car tuning guys are finding de-catting a problem because of the new MOT changes as they have to be fitted for MOT even if it tests good for emissions.
