    Hi guys

Quick question. My Speed has a data tool S4 alarm fitted and I will be looking to fit heated grips and my Ctek charger lead connector to the battery later this week. Do I need to do anything to the alarm before I disconnect the battery?

    Cheers
    Lee

Yeah, compress a towel/something to block the alarm. As when you disconnect, it'll think it's under attack and go on the backup power and you may be looking for a new set of eardrums. Even if you deactivate it with the fob, when it rearms itself from the timeout it'll go off again.. and again.. and again.

To put the alarm into 'Mechanic/Winter' mode, turn on on the ignition so lights & display light up, (not so the engine is running) hold down both buttons on the keyfob for 10 seconds, you get a single beep and the alarm is totally deactivated, turn ignition off. This is also used for long term winter storage, reduces the drain to pretty much zero and it doesn't monitor anything.

To bring the alarm back online, when the battery is re-connected, turn on the ignition and you will get the beeping for 5 secs before the alrm goes off, jsut deactivate it with the fob as usual.

    Bingo...

Also: Datatool S4 user guide, Google is your friend

    Entering ‘Winter’ mode
From the disarmed state, press both buttons on the
transmitter for 10 seconds with the ignition ON
until you hear a beep, after the ignition is switched
OFF the alarm unit will go into winter sleep mode.
The unit will now be completely shut down leaving
the machine and current usage below 250μA.
    Exiting ‘Winter’ mode
To re-activate the alarm system the ignition has to
be switched ON and the alarm will give a series of
increasing rate beeps which last for 5 seconds.
Within this time press the GREY button on the
remote control or the alarm system will trigger.
Once the unit has woken up it will come back as a
fully armed alarm/immobiliser. This ensures that if
the machine is attacked by a third party, it is fully
    protected.
We would again advise you on the benefits of using
the Datatool® Battery Conditioner (Pt No. 02012011)
to maintain the condition of your battery during
    extended stand up periods.

Many thanks Red Thunder. I have now also located the manual buried in the pack that came with the bike and saw the winter mode bit you kindly included above. Made the mistake of telling the insurance company it has this alarm expecting a discount, not a chance! and now for my trouble I have it included as a specific endorsement with conditions on the policy to give them more excuse not to pay out if it ever gets pinched!

Yeah, I did exactly that too, alarm, oxford disc lock and also ground anchor in the garage, no discount but noted these security devices are in place and need to be used!!!

I would presume you could tell the insurance company the alarm has been de-activated as it was causing to much false alarms and an inconvenience, they may then strike it off as a requirement, I certainly would not expect an increase in premium!

Yep, been there, now when they ask about security I responding with "what's the discount?". I've yet to get any so have no security listed on my policy. I guess if you live in a high risk area they might insist, but otherwise it's a con at our inconvenience.

The increase quoted on my Bonneville policy when I told them I was taking the Acumen alarm off was £3.00.
