It says it's a Daytona but I assume it's been sort of streetfightered as haven't found any with lights like this!

It road fairly well on the way home. Engine is fine in terms of no smoke, no knocks and quiet. It's in need of the carbs being fettled I think. Stalls easily, won't idle well and is being held back as you wind the throttle on.

I was going to strip straight away but now I'm of the opinion it's better to get it running right before I strip it down. What are people's thoughts? I'm in no rush, would like it ready for next spring I think.

Ok had a good day stripping the donar bike down. I'm pleased as it's not a nice bike cosmetically. It's had this street fighter conversion done. Not that well though so obvious signs of hand chopping of fairing lowers etc.

So I'm not bothered about using this bike as a donar. The bike has got a second hand engine in with Mikuni carbs so assume it's an earlier engine? Is the carb use the only difference? Is one set of carbs better than the other or much of a muchness?

    Few pictures

Ok great day today. Just wanted to get the loom marked up and out but also got the engine out too. Stripped bikes are boring but here are a couple of pictures.

These photos may explain the poor running Clarkey !
If the carbs weren't adjust/set for the very open breathing caused by that air filter !!! It would probably be easier to source pod filters than the original, which were very weak and fragile ! A simple modification to improve throttle responsiveness is to take tops off the carburetors and drill the ports/holes in the piston/slides out slightly ! I did it on a 94" trident with 3 into 1 exhaust.

    Cheers capt.

    Hi All,

Long time no post. Been seeing people get their projects either completed or close to so had to have another go. Garage was choca block but is now clear so can crack on.

I have a problem. The pipe which exits the water pump and then has a bracket which goes onto the block? The bolt that holds the bracket to the block sheared off. Its sheared deep into the hole so cannot access it easily. Its tuff to drill from the opposite end although I've started that in the middle with no probs.

My thoughts though are is it easier to just get a new pipe? Then I can just cut the old one off?

    Thanks in advance,

    Dave.

If you've managed to drill the broken bolt, can you not get in with a stud extractor ?
Failing that drill just below the thread tapping size so as not to damage the thread and then re-tap.
A picture would help if you can post one.

Ha yes a picture would help. I'll pop one up later. I've managed to drill but it's from the bottom of the bolt, not the top so don't think the extractor will work? If working from the bottom of the bolt I'd need an extractor which has a right hand thread on it? Also I can only get so far with the drill because of access. I only had time for a quick lol last night so will get more time today hopefully.

Not anymore!! A series of epic fails have occurred.

Firstly yesterday the drive shaft and cup for the alternator fell out the engine yesterday, no big deal I thought, I'll look at that later. On closer inspection it looks like the securing bolt has sheared too? I've not touched it in terms of any force so wonder if it was already bust?

Much easier to drill out now I hope.

Anybody have a DECENT engine stand for these engines or link to one?
Plus what's the score ref the alternator bolt? Is it engine fully apart job?
