Chain Adjuster Rubbing

    I just bought a 2009 T100 and after adjusting the chain I noticed that the chain adjuster was rubbing. See picture below. Has anyone experienced that? Could it be due to overtorquing axle nut? Or is there perhaps something bent or something assembled incorrectly in rear axle?

    Something seriously wrong there mate. Best get bearings and wheel spacers etc checked out. Is there play on the wheel ?

    Rubbing? The adjuster is completely misaligned - it should be pointing back at 9 o’clock not dangling at 7 p.m. Has it popped out of the hole?

    It looks to me like there is a spacer missing, between the swing arm and the wheel bearing.

    Had a similar experience a few years back with a VFR750 FJ. One of the bolts holding the rear sprocket on worked its way out and was happily milling a groove in the swingarm as the wheel rotated. It got almost halfway through by the time I’d got to my destination and spotted all the ally shavings. If it had been a longer ride the swingarm would have been cut right through o_O

    A missing spacer would explain the wheel binding as it will cause the free outer bearing ring to grind on the adjuster. More than that, I have just checked my bike. You have WAY too many threads showing through the nut which suggests a missing spacer and a swing arm being compressed to compensate.....

    Found some seriously bad stuff. Bearing crushed. See pic. At this point, I think I better get service manual, better tools and replace all internal parts. Axle bolt seems fine...
    Thought I was getting a bike that I could just ride without major work, but no such luck...

    Also Haynes makes a good shop manual for your bike. Can order on line. I have one for my 2018 Street Twin. Its quite good.

    I tried the triumph company site but couldn’t navigate it to find parts I need.

    Looking at that bearing I wonder if the centre space bar is missing (between the two wheel bearings) was the outer spacer in place on the right?

    The wheel bearings and space bar between actually seem ok. That would explain why no wobble in the wheel, and why the bike was rideable at all.

    It's just the stuff inside the sprocket assembly and spacer (item 21 in the parts picture) that seem messed up. The spacer doesn't look like the picture. Maybe it's been ground down by the broken bearing, or maybe it was the wrong part. I assume that the sprocket assembly and rubber cushion drive go between the spacer 21 and wheel bearing oil seal (4) in the picture. Is that right?

    Sorry, the picture just makes it look like that. It does point back at 9 o'clock, but I took the picture with my phone from above and behind.
