Spoke to Capt a couple of days ago and got an update on his situation, with his permission I'm posting his replies. I am Mending at a fairly steady rate ! My knee (gravel rash) was infected Monday last , but antibiotics have cured that ! My collar bone which was Brocken in the accident , hadn't separated , until just before my release from hospital. But a visit to the clinic last week revealed it wasn't going to rejoin/heal together without some intervention. So sling adjusted and a operation booked for tomorrow ! Sling adjustment may have sorted it if not the operation to pin it will ! Ribs are all good , spleen ? Will know next week at earliest as I am booked in ultrasound ? Scapula (shoulder blade) is stable but still gives flashes and flares of pain ! The Bike has been written off ! It suffered mainly cosmetic damage , but 23 years of age and part's are expensive or unobtainable so low valuation on bike ??? It's easier to write it off ! I hope to start some sort of physio therapy (ug exercises) in a couple of weeks ! I've done a couple of short walks this week- 2.2 to 2.5 ish km ! So getting there. The worst for me was diahorea !! First four weeks Nothing but !!! All good now on that front(rear?) As last three day's all solid ! LoL ! Saw the bone Doctor yesterday . The collar bone has finally decided to knit ... So no operation for now. Will have another X-ray in a week or so and specialist will review it then. The Police officer who is investigating my accident called me yesterday , whilst I was in the Hospital Ward. He will be calling me back today or tomorrow for my statement etc ..... It's only been five weeks tomorrow morning since my accident. Insurance settled yesterday , money went through into the bank , not enough to make it easy to do too much , might consider buying the bike and see ?!?! But that's a discussion with swmbo that's yet to happen ... She's not going to be easy to convince.. Great news.
Thank you for the update. Glad to hear things mostly seem to be coming back together. Hope @capt's friend is also healing.
Thank you for sharing this update on Capt's progress, Sprinter. It sounds like even though he is in rough shape that he's keeping a good attitude--and a sense of humor. Please give him my best and tell him that I'm sending healing wishes across the pond. P.S. It's good to see you back on the forum, Sprinter!
Morning All , now I've discovered or found this on the forum I'll put a few words down for all. Well feeling better each day , I went for another walk again 2.3 ish km ! I realise now after today's walk I might have been a bit too keen walking a couple of weeks back , feel better after this effort than the previous walk's. I have a "tele conference" with the Bone Dr in just over a week, just have do an X-ray prior to the consultation. the shoulder blade is still mildly to moderately uncomfortable, pain's come up if I rest too long in one position or conversely if I do too much exercise/movement. So that will hopefully sort itself out soon. I stopped taking pain killer's last night and surprisingly got a good nights sleep ! Police rang me yesterday morning , they took my statement over the phone (covid19) after which I was told , although because I hit my friends bike from behind and that's automatically me at fault ! I won't be charged as there is no gain or benefit to do so ! As I was the only seriously injured party! My mate Garrick's injuries mainly bruising and minor spleen or kidney tears (passing blood) both bikes were written of , Garrick's HD Sportster broke in two and mine mainly restricted to expensive cosmetic damages. My bike slid on the roadway and his flipped into a drain way. We both got off very lightly , the truck we were passing stopped two or three feet behind me !!! The Driver thought I had gone under his truck ! We both are a little worse off financially but both alive and family to comfort us ! Garrick's decided not to get back into riding , he's just turned 50 and has a three year old son . He's going to concentrate on being there for his son ! I hope to be backnup to riding fitness and health in next few months. My America needs work , there was a knock developing in the motor. I had just about sorted a replacement motor just before my accident on my 1998 Sprint , picked the motor up last week. I now have the ability to go one of three ways , swap out and strip, strip both and swap out defective parts or swap out the head off current motor on to the new , as current head has been ported ! I think I will do the quickest option though , swap and ride on new engine until I have the physical abilities necessary to get to a full assessment strip down. All who know Garrick and Myself are pretty amazed that there wasn't a funeral or two ! First online reports (faceache etc,,) had us under the trucks or worse ! We are still friends although regular ride's are now not an option... This cost two bike's = about $10,000 including riding gear , better that than two funerals ! We both are on the mend , Garrick's back at work - very sore but back to near normal ! cheers capt
Thanks for the update on you, your friend, and the bikes, Capt. Although it sounds like you are well and truly beat up, it could have been worse from the sounds of it and I'm glad you didn't wind up under that truck like some reports had it! Take your time, listen to you body, heal at your own pace in body, mind, and spirit. The bikes will be waiting for you when you're ready. I'm glad also that your friend, Garrick, wasn't hurt too badly but it's a shame that the crash has ended his riding career. Please continue to keep us posted. Glad to see you back "in person" on the forum!
Good to hear you are on the mend Capt, hopefully it won't be too long before you can get back on the saddle
Obviously missed the news..anyway wishing Capt a speedy recovery and is back to riding in the near future.
Yep you've both been very lucky indeed, and you can both can look forward to better days ahead. That's all that matters at the end of the day.
Happy to hear your on the mend and past the issues from the pain meds @capt. Have been wondering how you have progressed, so good your collarbone looks to be good. Wishing you well for the shoulderblade and recovery, and a great call by the cops
Capt, If it provides any solace, I had a terrible accident 35 years ago. The car that hit me is now rust or razor blades, whereas whilst having a gamey leg and wobble when I walk, I am still grumpy and bad tempered - just as I have always ever been. If you take the long term view I believe I won that argument. Sure you will too.
