Hi, After a bit of advice regarding the 12,000 mile service on my 2013 Bonneville SE (865 EFI). I was going to do the oil, oil filter, spark plugs and air filter myself and have ordered the parts for this. However on checking the book, it says a fuel filter change and valve clearance check/adjustment are also part of this service, and both look a bit more involved than the standard service elements. Some people say the fuel filter change isn’t necessary in the U.K. as our fuel is not full of crap like in some countries. Is that right or is it better to do it? And I don’t have the clearance measuring things for the valves, and if they need adjusting the disassembly involved might be a step too far for me to do myself. The bikes well out of warranty obviously, but I don’t want to omit these jobs if they’re going to cause damage or problems. Any advice would be most welcome. Cheers
You are highly unlikely to require a fuel filter change. It is also fairly likely your valves are within spec. Checking and correcting are not the same thing. An inexpensive set of metric feeler gauges will tell you if you have an issue. Cam covers off and cams pointed skywards - plenty of how to YouTube videos. If you do everything else you can just book the bike into a dealer for any re-shimming required. An independent will be cheaper than a Triumph franchise and the shims are common to plenty of Japanese motors.
On the other hand, a record of the major 12 k service being done is an asset when it comes time to sell.
I would suggest a signed and dated copy service schedule filed with the vehicle docs is proof enough. https://static1.squarespace.com/sta...08ad75/1539342580293/service+checklist+6K.pdf
