Trick-Dicky my wife is a specialist Max Fax nurse, she says report to your nearest access centre if you are unable to get an emergency dental appointment, don't get fobbed off with the expensive implant option, be firm and say to your dentist you want referring to your Hospital Max Fax unit. Severe toothache is awful in some cases even Tramadol will not ease the pain. As you will know if you are taking Antibiotics do not for god's sake drink alcohol it will make the treatment fail, it makes matters worse if you need them in future as they will be less effective, as you say the co-codamol just makes the system constipated. Good luck with it.
Agree with all but the codamol bit. Never had a problem with that or any other pain meds after operations. The trick is to go and give it a push when you normally would. Bombs away and back to normal.
Update! I saw the dentist last Wednesday and had the root canal and because it was a bit painful when he dug down the roots he disinfected etc and filed and said he thinks there may be a low level infection going on which I had said from the start, but I have been in pain since then off and on in varying degrees and I must say its starting to get me down a bit as all I have had for the last six weeks is bouts of toothache. Anyway I have been taking antibiotics that I suggested as I have had lots of amoxicillin before, and also he gave me the wrong dosage, and it really was not getting the job done, so now I have another course of the right dosage and the swelling has gone down but not completely and today was the first day that I haven't had and serious pain so that a bonus back to see the dentist again next Wednesday but not sure its worth proceeding with the work as if it just gets infected every time he does work then it might be beast to just have it out, As for the other side of my jaw I am still waiting for an appointment and t strangely the antibiotics make it sore and stiff...going to give up chewing and maybe lose a little weight.
Re. the "bombs away".....Colase works, too. Learned that with my first surgery and the accompanying Percoset.
Hang in there Tricky-Dicky! Glad to read that you've had some days with relief from that serious pain you've been battling. Thanks for the update.
Tricky-Dicky Have to join you there i got the toothache. Under my bridge the root has started to decay. But they want three thou to remove the triple bridge pull the tooth and fit a spike to refit. I am using the repair and protect to numb the pain and the dental sticks laced with some numbing paste. Joe.
I would advise you to enroll in any dental clinic for a full examination of the oral cavity to exclude the possibility of blood infection through the gums, as this can be a very serious problem in the future. I don't think your problem will get worse, but it's still better not to delay going to the dentist and not forget about the health of your teeth.
That must be really painful best of luck, TD! I had a severe toothache a few months ago, and I can't even sleep or eat properly. I decided to visit an emergency dentist to get some help, and they also prescribed me medications that helped me with my toothache.
