Riding back home from work, 2 miles from home and an old lady pulls out in front of me on the A128 heading towards Tilbury. No where to go, so put it down and bike hits her car and I, fortunately(skilfully?) slide past her rear bumper. The Speedmaster is bashed up, Headlight, rear light and carrier both panniers and a few other bits. I got off lighter than the bike, sore wrist/Thumb, Hip and neck/shoulder nothing broken, but pretty sure it will be worse tomorrow. Sitting her now thinking, is it time to realise at 63 your reflexes ain't up to it? or could it have happened to anyone?
Without being in your shoes mate no way of really telling but suffice to say you are not the first this has happened to and unfortunately nor will you be the last Glad you are in one piece, the bike will fix There are so many of these type of accidents that happen close to home, the theory being that as you get closer you relax just that little bit more Don't think it's an age thing though mate, well apart from the old lady of course
Bad luck mate but I don’t think it’s got anything to do with your age She pulled out in front of you and you had nowhere to go except down Hope it doesn’t put you off something you enjoy
Sir, your a star, keep riding, dont do the sensible thing and stop riding. You’ll become older and bored
Sorry to hear of this mate. As others have said, the bike can be fixed but you’re in one piece, that’s the main thing. And yes, it could certainly happen to any one of us, don’t beat yourself up over it. Hope you’re feeling better soon
Thanks guys, it or the better half haven't put me off biking, but the next one will have ABS, already scanning the web for something to place my claim money on, as the thought of commuting into Chelmsford with its fecked up road system in a car is giving me heartburn already or maybe that was the alcohol last night pics of bike:
Oh dear! DO hope you mend quickly and manage to get the bike sorted out satisfactorily. As others have said, it's not a wake up call or a reminder of your age - keep on keeping on and stay safe.
Thumb is gowping, hip is feeling tender, although the Red Route denims held up well, and sore across shoulders and neck. Probably didn't get as bashed up as you or all that time as a kid playing "dead man's fall" has paid off Hope you feel better soon!!
Ordinarily I would maybe think about the Advanced driving, but: As a lecturer in FE I have never been trained so much in my life with futile CPD sessions, from people who never spent a day in Industry, telling me how to stay safe!!! And endless sessions on how many rights our young customers have with little or no responsibilities it would seem? But you never know may have a look!!
I'm glad to hear you're felling better and not badly hurt. Don't give up the ship. This kind of accident can happen to anyone anytime!
Trying to justify funding for one of them "New fangled" Street Twins-- water cooled engines, ABS? Who would have thought
That's crap mate, but it's a story that you hear all too often! I am 5 years or so behind you & have had quite a few crashes, some my fault, some not, the only consistent has been my desire to get back on, if you feel like that then keep riding.
Definitely going to continue riding, but shortage of funds for an ABS equipped bike, may mean a move away from Triumph
I am 63 and enjoying my Street Tripe rS. Had you been going faster you would have passed the dangerous junction before the driver could pull out ! However as I reach my 48th year of riding I would say if a car is at a junction you should be in the middle of the road or as far away as you can get.as you pass.
Actually there was a Van in front of me who peeled off to the left to turn into the exit she must have been at, and I had moved out to go past him when she appeared in front of me crossing left to right across the road, it is an offset crossroad with a kind of island in the centre.
