Thanks for helping with my hearing MadMrB - I couldn't discern that name 'Sambrook' - I am as deaf as a boot
Isn’t the idea that the Sensational Headline grabs your attention and compels you to read the article where you can then sift the wheat from the chaff? Often the article bears little resemblance to the headline but I’ll have still have read it and be suitably informed on the subject and then decide if it’s bollox or not And no one does Test Match Special like the BBC - just sayin’
Know what you mean Old Nick.....use to rely on the BBC as sound source of news, comment and entertainment. But have become aware over the years that in nearly every program there is a bash of the so called 'right wing' and blatant promotion of left wing stories/influences. I just wished I had kept a diary of every time I had noticed an issue. I am not saying that I am right but that that is how it appears to me. However, there seems to be a lot of others who agree - here and elsewhere. So, as with Brexit, perhaps the silent majority are beginning to make their voices heard instead of being brow beaten by the loudest shouters. And yes, Test Match Special on R4 and Sorry I Haven't a Clue are genuine treasures. Me too - just sayin'
Agh - sorry Duck. Tried to post a photo of newspaper article this morning which comments upon declining trust in the media, in general, and the BBC in particular. However, media URL not accepted and I cannot delete the post (seemingly) so just call it modern art.
I agree BBC live sport TV coverage is feeble (whatever happened to Rugby Special and Grandstand?) possibly because of the lack money and the obvious restrictions on advertising so they cant compete with the likes of Sky BT etc So I like to go for the best of both worlds and BBC radio commentary and watch Sky with the sound turned down
I think most people are able to but choose not to read the articles and decide - which probably means it was the wrong headline? It would be a bit sad if all our news reports were sterile, dumbed down or spoon fed But this whole sensationalisation has been an issue with the British press for a very long time
And that’s why I love this forum - grown up conversations and discussion, and exchanges of opinion, some thought provoking, some infuriating, some ridiculous, but never ever boring And outstandingly laugh out loud childish at the right times But definitely no flouncing
It's George Soros, man. It's the same with almost all the news channels here as well. They mostly all suffer from TDS -much like a few folk on this forum.
Understand your views on the press DD but am principally interested in the BBC simply because it has the possibility to influence so many people. Though there is an interesting article today in the press highlighting the diminishing influence of the press in general and the BBC in particular. There was a ruminant on tonight knocking the decision to provide school meal tokens following Marcus Rashfords appeal. They have done what was asked of them......put a smile on the story.
I didn’t realise that was a thing - goes to show you can learn a new thing everyday I guessed it wasn’t Totally Dissolved Solid, and Tenancy Deposit Scheme didn’t make much sense either
And so it should Jez much better meaning than the original But I shall be laughing for days that there’s a real phrase to describe someone driven insane by Donald Trump
