Thursday evening is the weekly bike meet at The Whistle Stop Cafe at the station in Whitby.
Weather was spot on for a good ride over the moors with the return along the coast via Sandsend.

It also coincided with a world record attempt to gather together the largest number of people dressed as vampires (I only found this out later - it's not unusual to see Goths or vampires strolling around Whitby to be fair) :D

This was to commemorate to the day the 125th anniversary of the publication of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula". To celebrate the occasion I decided to climb the 199 steps up to the abbey.

St Marys church, founded in 1100 but the interior fittings are Georgian, including a galleried first floor and rare box pews.

The graveyard is used as a setting in the Dracula novel - you can see why

The ruined abbey, not the best picture but access was limited due to gathering vampires :D

Return journey via the donkey path adjacent to the steps - a sign at the top does advise that it is unsuitable for motor vehicles

Great photos of a very interesting place, Steve! I love the photo of the sweeping view of the town that you (I'm assuming) took from the top of those steep steps. But I do find that graveyard quite creepy and can definitely see why it's used as a setting in Dracula.
