Yep, me too, recently heard of a case where it was argued that lack of "proper" riding kit meant personal injuries were worse because of it and therefore a lesser payout .....
C'mon Wessa, don't go all snowflake on me My wife's Grandpa looked very much like this as he lost half his head and an eye on Sword Beach and went on to live a very fulfilling and productive life. He never had an issue but rest assured I'm not taking the piss out of the individual just using the image for comedic value. There's really no need to get all offended on his behalf
Hi HV not offended mate, you misunderstand me. Yep I was really incredulous that it could be the fella who was wearing the helmet. I’m pleased that your grandad survived, we owe people like him so much.....
I'm looking quite earnestly at one of these (HeLite Turtle 2).... currently saving the pennies... Just wondered if you had any thoughts or pointers or tips... I'm a sedate rider. Riding a bike is good enough, I'm happy to do it safely and steadily...
I have worn one of these for a few years now. Never had to use it in anger, but you never know what is round the corner. Yes they are expensive but in the same price range as a decent helmet and if it saves a spinal or neck injury then it’s a bargain
Tried a Hellite vest when I did the trackdays in Spain last October as I like the idea. Didn't have to test it thankfully but did end up taking it off and wearing normal body armour for the last two days, it's very bulky and hot and gets in the way a bit. Maybe when they're a bit lighter and cooler......
I'm pretty much the same as everyone else in that I wear protective gear whenever I ride. It is all down to personal choices though at the end of the day. We all live and learn through our own mistakes... It's all about how comfortable you are with risk. Certainly crashing plenty whilst racing slowed me down, and getting older too! When younger I also "popped" to the garage and back in trainers.
