Hi there all, Just got my 06 955i out from storage and remember why I never parted with it! I have the issue/bug with the Speedo where it registers and works on ignition but doesn’t once started. I now understand I need TuneECU and an updated map which will hopefully sort but am not an Android user (although am in IT) so before I go all out buying stuff left right and centre - does anyone here have or know of anyone in the North West of UK that has or works with TuneECU? I have tried a Junction33 and there no chance with my local Triumph Dealer.
I have Tunecu but I'm miles away, however my licence only provides x5 slots IIRC so it's worth noting, and I can't see anyone willing to do it for free.
cheers Eldon. Not expecting it for free, am prepared to pay someone who knows what they are doing with it so more than happy to make it worth someone’s while in terms of cost. If it comes down to it I will take the time to read up and source all the kit it’s just the time and potential cost for what I don’t expect to need much there after. I’m a iPhone iPad user and windows so don’t have anything Android for a start. Distance may not be too much of an issue just thought I would see if anything local to me for a start.

Yes I am sure, do you know what tune you want to load? It takes about 5 mins to load a tune with the cable
Hi I am in Runcorn Cheshire.....so to far away....odd you need to update map for such a simple fault. Have you tried just disconnecting and re connecting the battery. I have Tune Ecu....to get it now the is an ongoing annual charge. What make you think a re-map will sort your problem. Nick.
Hi Nick The symptoms I get are normally first thing fire the bike up and the speedo works fine. It often continues to work fine The next time or couple of occasions when the engine is switched off and the bike restarted, e.g. stopping for fuel. Inevitably, at some point I will restart the bike after a stop on the speed will fail to register and it will remain that way for the rest of the trip or ride. I have since investigated and the speedo does register when the ignition is on but the engine off (Tested bye pushing the bike up and down the drive) But as soon as the engine started again, fails to register any speed. As I say, I’ve only just got it out of storage again, but I know this was a problem when I last used the bank and obviously the symptoms persist now. I recall reading or finding a post that suggested a book or something with the ECU so a new map or an updated map (I don’t know what I have on at the moment) May resolve. The battery is kept on a trickle charger. The bike is not lazy to start and the charging circuit seems to be working as expected as is the Regulator rectifier.
Re-mapping the ECU seems cracking a sledge hammer job TBH. Some Faults will clear by just disconnecting the battery and reconnecting a few mins later. I dont know about your year of bike...but my 2020 T100 bonnie with a bit of button pressing will read any fault code and display them. Would you know.....is your speedo driven by a sensor by the brake rotor....they can get damaged. There is a very good bike garage 100yds from me...he uses TUNE ECU.....are there not any good bike guys who could take a look before you look at ECU and maps. TuneEcu can be quite frustrating to set up.....its £25 to start with and then £25 pa....plus the cost of an OBD2 reader. With your bike being a 2006....will a standard OBD2 car scanner not work with it?
the 06 bike can use a obd lead so i can use the windows version so there is no cost involved. to install a new tune. the Julian tune really perks up the motor so is worth loading imho

I am not convinced that the Tune ECU will sort it, the 955i models have a speed sensor in the wheel, that are temperamental, and are easily broken on the locating lugs when removing, reinstalling the wheel, also when these 955Is are laid up for any length of time often the speedo functions can and do malfunction, try going through the 3 cycles first and see if the ECU clears itself, it usually does.
The easiest way to check the speedo pick up is to remove the front wheel. if the pick up is knackered it will be evident immediately here is what the replacement looks like Triumph T2001110 T2001200 tacho speedometer Speed triple/Daytona/TT600/Four | eBay
Hi Nick, no problem these early 955i models need 3 cycles as follows (1) start the engine and leave it running until the fan cuts in, then switch it off and wait until it cools down (2) start the engine again and let it run until the fan kicks in and again turn it off. (3) leave it until it completely cools down. (3) for the third and final time start the engine and let it run until the fan kicks in, the ECU then re calibrates itself, the same procedure will remove the engine management light that comes on if the battery is removed for any reason. Newer model Triumph's have a simpler and a more sophisticated method for recalibration, say when changing the exhaust, aftermarket air filters (K@N for example) or different fuels. Hi All, Thanks for all the collective input. The value of these forums is great particularly for older bikes. So the issue didn’t crop up and been using it as much as I can. Not used since Sunday which was a leisure run out for a good few hours and was fine on every start. Today, removed from trickle charge and wheeled out the garage and set off and no Speedo readout. Switched off the engine at petrol station and fired up again after fuelling and still no joy. Where it was safe I switched the bike off whilst rolling, turned the ignition on Speedo instantly reads correctly. Start the engine and again it fails to read. Rode to work 20 mins. Left bike in the car park. fired it up to head home and Speedo worked fine! So I’ve taken the front wheel out and the sender all looks good albeit it grease and lubricant on it. So I dont believe the sender is broken or damaged but still stumped. ☹️
