That’s correct sir. I have about 17mm of static front and rear, for a total of 35mm with rider sag added. I will remeasure in spring with full gear and warm oil. Looks like, at about 12.5 stones, the rear spring will be just barely soft enough. If I was less than 12.5 stones I think I would have to get a softer spring.

Your about same weight as me, and suspention guy I'll be using said I may be too light for the stock R spring.
Even though manual says don't adjust rear shock sag, I had to as too firm. There is no way that 1 spring rate set at 1 preload setting on a motorcycle will work for every one using it, unless the are same weight as the rider they used to come up with those setting when the bike was developed!

What’s your spring rating. Mine is 34/100.

I was going to ask you that, as curious if they dropped the rate on the RS.
    Mine is a 34/100 too.

We’ll see how it works in the spring. I’m thinking it will be ok. I’ll let you know.

I've got 40mm on rear with rings wound all the way up, and 37mm in front.

That should be fine. Be a good idea to set the front the same as rear. I tried backing off the front preload from the factory preset of 7 turns in, but it was too soft. I ended up back at factory setting of 7 turns in.

seting preload is the first thing to get right before you start mucking on with comp/reb, 25mm unladen sag at front with no rider on and about 14mm at the rear, this is a good ball park starting figure , front sag is never the same as the rear, with the rider on you want about another 20mm more travel on the stroke, this will tell you if your in the spring range, then work on comp/reb adjustments, preload at the front is counted as fully off then turns in, simples

Are you referring to static sag?

Oh I see. Those settings sound like track settings not a street starting point. But again it’s just a starting point and people have different riding styles as well. Thanks for the clarification.

3mm difference can be error in measurement, I’m happy to leave it as it is till I get shock serviced and a set up done.

Wow! Some thread eh? All started with me nearly crapping myself on a corner coming out of swanage!
That's the great thing about this forum: Many knowledgeable people give input.

Found out suspension travel on R model (should be same on non R), rider sag should take up about 1/3 of you travel.
    120mm on front
    130mm on rear

yes, but this is total suspension travel and not spring stiffness, should be the same on both models I would think.
So rider sag should be about just over 35mm front and 40mm rear, bang on where I ended up with mine.
