It's a great trip indeed! The dog doesn't ride with us but stays in our "gite"when we're out. She doesn't mind at all, just sleeps until we're back.
What an adventure, @Vulpes, on all levels! Please give Mrs. V a big hug from me and tell her "way to go"! Previous rides nearer to home will seem pedestrian to her when you are done with this trip and these roads. The weather looks like it was very cooperative, too. I'll bet Mrs. V was quite happy to sit down at dinner with a glass of wine this evening.
A shortish ride today on the "plateau de mille etangs (thousand lakes)". Good fun and nice weather, and an opportunity for the mrs' backside to recuperate!
That looks like a great loop, @Vulpes. And the scenery in your photos is divine. Another "way to go" for Mrs. V! It does seem that your plan to stay someplace lovely and do day rides is turning out to be a great idea! Edit: What was your mileage on the day out of curiosity?
You hit the nail on the head, @Sandi T , a base for day rides is perfect at the minute. And Jefta thanks you for "the way to go", it's tiring for her to be sure, but she loves it!
Only 60 miles today, but still challenging. Quite enough after yesterday. A 100 mile trip on the cards for tomorrow.
That actually sounds perfect, @Vulpes. I remember when I first started riding and eventually doing multiple days of riding in a row. I also found it quite tiring--not only physically but also mentally. And the roads I began touring on weren't nearly as challenging as those you and Jefta are currently riding for the most part! It's smart to ride "just enough" to leave retain enthusiasm and eagerness for the next day. Have fun tomorrow!
A good trip today, but sadly the tracks were too narrow to stop and take pictures... We did stop for coffee... And lunch!
We started off early, and headed for the Col de la Schlucht. Beautiful scenery en route, and we stopped at the "Roche de diable" (Devils rock). Interesting, and great views. We then went on to the village of Eguisheim, next to the town of Colmar. Very pretty! You can tell from the buildings the area has been German for some time in the past. It was then time for lunch! An excellent beef burger with goats cheese...
