Well, I always knew I liked riding motorcycles better than bicycles. Yesterday bore that out. I went down hard on my bicycle and was transported by ambulance to the closest hospital. And after spending five hours in the emergency department and getting X-rays it turns out that I have broken pubic bone (pubic rami) and a shattered left elbow (comminuted olecranon). The pubic bone injury has left me in incapable of walking for the next few weeks. How such a tiny bone can cause such pain is beyond me. My elbow is such a mess that I need surgery which will entail lots of pins and a plate. And you guys will appreciate this. My first thought when I heard about the plate repair was "how will that work with my elbow body armor"? My surgeon is a good friend of Mr. Sandi's and mine whom we've know for years and is thankfully one of the best upper extremely orthopedic surgeons in Tucson. He actually carried me into the house to the bed after following us home from the hospital. And hey, it could've been worse. I could have been on a motorcycles or my car or had much more severe injuries that are not so treatable like some other forum members. So I'm counting my blessings and trying to keep my head up. Today I learned do do voice command on my MacBook but it's pretty slow going compared to just being able to type. I'm going to do my best to stay connected to the forum as I so enjoy everyone and everything (well, almost everything!) on here and it will bring a smile to my face. But I may be off the radar here and there for awhile. Why yes, that is a Harley- Davidson blanket that I got for my birthday recently. But if you look closely you'll see my coffee mug has a Thruxton in on it. I'm trying to figure out how to wash my hair and take a shower. I suggested to Mr. Sandi that he wheel me into the driveway and hose me down. Annie's pretty confused because her schedule is all out of wack along with all of us in this household at the moment. She knows something is clearly wrong and is doing her best to take good care of me. But she has not been more than about 5 feet from me since I got home from the hospital yesterday. And speaking of taking care of me, Mr. Sand has been outstanding and a trooper at that. And we've had to be intimate far beyond the typical marriage. You guys will appreciate that my first thought while lying on the ground after the crash was, "Oh crap, this is going to really going to interfere with my motorcycle ride this afternoon and tomorrow!"
Wow terrible news Sandi T, I hope all goes well for your forthcoming surgery, sounds like your in the best possible hands which is very positive indeed, You take it easy until then and let Mr Sandi take good care of you as I'm sure he will and looking at Annie god bless her she'll help him and you all the way. All the best take care TEZ
Wish I could click on Thanks and Funny, DD, as your post is both! Sadly I think my answer to" What You Drinking Tonight" will be water for awhile. Just to add insult to injury.
Yeah. And I'm going to do my best to not feel the need to start a thread called "What narcotic painkiller you taking tonight!?"
I will most definitely take your advice under consideration, DD! Most probably the huge pinch of salt and no whiskey at all. At least for the time being.
Well that sucks, get well soon. Sounds like your in good hands. Was this accident on your road bicycle on skinny tires? You can get more exercise/mile on a fat tire bike with much better/more forgiving grip in the same time period. Just slower and less distance traveled.
Bloody hell Sandi Really bad luck You know that we’re all thinking of you and sending our love Hopefully you’ll have a speedy recovery and will soon be back to normal Get rid of the bloody push bikes dangerous things Loving the pet lip in the third picture
Oh no Sandi! Terrible luck there, and a warning to the rest of us about the dangers of bicycles! They are the devil’s own invention. I empathise with you pain, being unable to move around under your own steam or do the personal tasks unaided sucks. Once plated the arm will feel better I am sure, you then have the delights of setting off the security metal detectors every time you fly somewhere! Heal well, heal quickly.... you got motorcycles to ride!
So sorry to hear of your crash, I'm sure your surgery will be 100% successful, wishing you a speedy recovery. Chin up.
Very sorry to see this this morning. Take it easy, get a good book and a pile of box sets and take it easy. Hope it heals well for you Positive waves coming your way!
Well, that's a right bummer Sandi. But fortunately you are in good hands (and paws..) both human and canine! Get well soon!
What a bummer, thankfully not at high speed Netflix & Amazon Prime time, re watch Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad and The Crown Get well
Really sorry to hear it Sandi. Look on the bright side, it’ll give you a chance to sell your bicycle, you could shoot it, and get some stuff for your bikes in readiness for you return
Sorry to hear of your off @Sandi T. there’s not much love for pushbikes in these pages anyway, but this will cement their evil ways for a lot of folk. (Personally, i love them, but as @Old phart phred suggests, especially mtb’s) people think of their pelvis as a solid structure, in reality there’s 3 large flat bones held together by ligaments (strong, but essentially soft tissue) and so there is some give/movement in the structure itself. It’s human version of a differential axle, converting power to the ground into forward motion. It’s shape derives from (as well as being the gut cradle) being the attachment point for loads of different muscles, including the biggest, most powerful set for your legs. The pubic rami is part of these attachment areas (the gracilis, some obturator’s and adductors). This indicates the pressures throughout the pelvis as weight is distributed from side to side/leg to leg and forward motion is created. It really is of no wonder that a fractured pubic rami is a painful little bugger because it gets moved around so much. I wish you the speediest of recoveries, you sound like you have great support in your husband... can’t wait to hear you’ve sat on your bike for the first time, I wonder which one it’ll be??? Heal quickly mate xxx
Òooooooh Sandi that's horrible news. Wishing you every success with your forthcoming surgery and subsequent recovery.
So happy you are no worse @Sandi T. wishing you well in your mending phase. What fantastic minders you have at home and around you, both human and otherwise.
Get well soon. Sounds like the classic injury cocktail of landing on a hip, arm outstretched. Booze aside you need to eat for recovery and load up with calcium. Popeye knew a thing or two......spinach!
