Always jam first then cream. Jam is a spread and cream a topping, not the other way round.
(I was not very popular when I lived in Devon)! o_O

B*W riders probably have the paper doily as well!
(B*W make a branded doily set at the entirely reasonable cost of six for £15.99!) :sob:

    Irish Triumph Jam eh ?
Well a couple of days a go I felt a bit peckish while I was out so I popped into a local chippy and asked for chips with curry sauce. The girl replied " would that be Indian, Chinese or Irish curry sauce" ?
Irish curry sauce ? Can anybody shed any light on this ?
I realise now I should have asked for a taster while I was in the shop but at the time I asked for the hottest, which was the chinese.

Often refered to a Jelly up here! Just to confuds you further!

' Hae ma, chuck us a jeely piece ?' would result in white bread (if you were posh included butter) and jam sandwiches for you and all your wee pals.

    Happy days:cool:

My dad lived on the third floor of a tenament, he and his brothers would shout up !
They became very good at catching !!!. Jam was the best filling, cos cheeses sandwiches would fall apart on the way down!
True story, happened all across Glasgow area, and maybe further afield.

I think you are all asking the wrong question entirely

    Jam or PRESERVE

And as everyone knows jam first with clotted cream on top

Nah, Jersey milk, honey, a raw egg whipped in at the finish and topped with blueberries, blackberries and/or black currants.

That's what I always thought, but then you can buy stuff called jam that has lumpy bits in it. Legally jam has to b a minimum 60% sugar (inc the fructose), and 35% has to be fruit, though some 'fruits' like blackcurrant can be 25% cos of the strong taste (I think). Anyway, conserve that you buy off the supermarket is usually 50+% fruit.

True story, Bonne Maman jam used to be a regional/local 'value' brand in France. The manufacturer wanted to widen the distribution so hired a marketing lady. She redesigned the label and lid to look like homemade by Granny, then doubled-ish the price to place it as premium brand and increase retailers' margin. Same formulation in the jar. Look at it now.
