    Yep, was there myself some years back . How did they get the gliders so close without being detected. Some feat.

    Winston Churchill stated that in his opinion these glider pilots did the best job in the whole of WW2.

    They achieved complete surprise - forcing Field Marshall Model and General Krebbs to rapidly abandon the lunch they were having at Hartstein House!

    For me, the most memorable thing in the museum is the preserved piece of wallpaper on which some angry paratrooper has scrawled in pencil:

    Never surrender
    Fuck the Gerry's
    1st Airborne Division
    Germans killed or wounded
    21st nothing
    22nd nothing
    23rd nothing
    24th September 1944 total six
    (There is a row of 6 swastikas )
    25th September 1944
    (A row of 10 swastikas)

    Tried to photograph it but just kept getting the reflection of the flash. This is the only Google image I could find.
