1961 5TA got her runnig a treat with the new dizzy, plugs, battery etc. She seemed a bit noisy on the primary chain, tried adjusting as per the manual bit with no success so I whipped the case off and to my surprise there is no chain tensioner?!! As far as I have research there should be one, its easy to buy on line but has anyone fitted one ?? I have the angles drain plug in the case not upright like early models so assume it missing

Morning Phil, if you look between the 2 lower mounting bolts of the alt there should be a threaded hole for the front pivot to screw into or it might even be there that's the front mount for the blade.

Looks like someone has welded up the mount/adjuster hole to me.

That’s not good news if something has been welded up! I will take another look now. It seems that the previous owner was a proper badger which is a pain.

Ignore the lug at the bottom, up behind the alt between the 2 lower of the 3 alt bolt there is either a hole for the pivot or the the pivot might even be there, that is the front pivot for the blade. Have sent a PM

Not a 500 but shows how all parts work. Only difference is on 500's you put the long adjuster nut in after fitting the outer case. 732798aa8fcafd66ba2ebbf24f003cbc.jpg

In the second pic you can see the threaded hole in the crankcase for the pivot to fit in if you look right through the alt :)
