Day 1 Left about 6am as planning a scenic route that would take about 6hrs and 178 miles. Used TomTom Rider 40 Winding routes feature. Gives 3 alternatives that you can tweak so we did one route going and a different one on return. No need to touch any main A roads or motorways, great And we got some lovely scenery The burger van was on the A6006 just past Melton Mowbrey and prior to that we were on the B676 both roads were a joy to ride. Me with the sheep was just past Derby entering the peak district on route to our hotel in Cromford. The weather was good all trip, no rain once.
Day 2 Was planning to ride Snake pass but if honest I was tired after the ride on the first day. So it was into Matlock Bath the home of bikers in this area. Anita decided the Heights of Abraham would be a good idea. Well I am no fan of cable cars but yes the views and caves were well worth it. Once down from such dizzy heights It was time for a cream tea and admire some of the bikes going past.
Day 3 Well you can't go to the peak district and not visit Bakewell. And as you can see when in Bakewell eat a bakewell tart Well after you have first eaten a pizza. Day 4 The ride home via Ely and the Fens, that's an interesting place, the roads are above the rest of the ground which is as flat as the eye can see. So any gust of wind was felt but still a great ride. Anita loved the trip and this was our first bike tour of any distance so happy days North Norfolk next year, can't wait.
They are an absolute bargain and the yellow one really stands out, lol Used Roc straps as well and found them much more user friendly than bungie cords.
nice pics Suffolk, 5 of us setting off for 3 day tour of Peak District 25th Aug, 2 speedmasters, 1 America, 2 goldwings
Hope you get good weather, if you do you will have a blast. My intention once there was to do the route around Hope valley going up to Glossop(snake pass) then back into Bakewell but we changed our plans. No regrets but reckon that is a good route to do. They had laid fresh gravel on to the roads around Matlock Bath when we were there, that was fun, not, toodling along at about 20 mph if not slower. Finally glad we avoided the weekends as even during the week it got busy. Post some pics when you get a chance
Don't forget to post some pics when you get back (another Speedmaster rider here from Durham...... well Bishop Auckland really)
