I've just been quoted a grand to service my 2007 speed triple at Blade Triumph Cheltenham. Utter joke they even sent me a list of things they "check" to make me feel better but also advised that I might like a bike health check before the work is carried out. Does anyone know any independent motorcycle work shops that can carry out the work in Gloucestershire? Thanks

24k is a major service. We would allow for seven hours labour at Woburn and quote £795 plus another hour labour and shims if valve clearances need doing after checking, but very often they won't on your engine. Plus £12 per day for the loan bike unless you accept £2000 insurance excess.

A mobile self-employed chap or someone working out of their garage, with minimal overheads, will always be able to undercut an authorised dealer, but won't be able to plug in to the manufacturer software for the health check etc. I can send you a copy of the service schedule so you can check the mobile guy is quoting for everything that needs doing. Btw, the health check is mandatory duty of care, not an optional extra.

Not particularly looking forward to this myself. Mr Tiger will be demanding his 24000 mile service soon, probably around April time. Interestingly Rich, Destination Triumph used to charge £15.00 a day for a loan bike to avoid the £1000 excess. They've stopped that now though and the bike is free (with £1000 excess of course!)

Yeah, our dealer insurer requires a £2,000 excess to get the loan for free. AIG charge us £12 per day on loan bikes to reduce the excess to £250. £7.60 for part-day demo.

BTW, £695 if double sided swing arm. It's £795 for single sided because of the extra labour time involved.

I can;t believe people fall for these prices. Blade group guote £349 for a major service on an Audi A4 that's the same company as Cheltenham Triumph. People are being ripped off and I for one won't be one of them I may as well sell the bike a grand for a service is taking the piss no matter how you cut it.

So how long does it take to service a car? The major cost is in the labour. If it takes seven hours to do the job properly that's how long it takes I'm afraid.

£15 p/h DD, where you been?
Nobody charges time out at anywhere near those figures any more.

By the way I'm agreeing with you though that a £1000 service is the opposite extreme of taking the piss. As I posted elsewhere on here, factory Ducati times of 9 and 10 hours for a service at £75 or so an hour soon stacks up.

£15 p/h is not representative of anything though.
The cost of employing someone against what the Tech. actually gets paid is a significant difference. NI employers contributions, pension costs, sick pay, holiday pay etc all has to come from somewhere before we even get to overheads. We have now come to expect and demand good service, prompt answering of the phone for example means a Receptionist is ready to receive your call.

I'm not surprised that more shops are going internet only based if possible.

I'm certainly not defending main dealers here as I often despise them.

Mate of mine lives in Cheltenham, he comes all the way over here to Bulldogs in Wokingham to get his services, MOT etc. with a free loan bike!
He used to live around here and when he moved to Cheltenham found the local dealer prices extortionate, so went back to Bulldogs.....

Yes agreed DD when we're getting to these sort of figures somebody somewhere is having a laugh.

I think my biggest car/bike repair bill ever was £50 :yum

This really makes me smile, the more people pay prices like this the more they are going keep charging these prices,if nobody went there they would soon have to drop them to survive, about 15yrs ago i used to ride a road going KTM there wasn't many about then and KTM wrote to me and asked if there was anything that could be improved [the service prices were like triumph's now] i said you need to knock 75% off the service price or you are not going to sell anything.Moving on to 2017 the major service on my ktm 1190 adventure was £190,so don't pay it go to muddysump, here in yamaha land my last service was £170.The 24k service would be £220.

Look at my posts on the random ride out thread?
There is a picture of A1 Moto service charges. At that price you were quoted it might be better you having a couple of days in York with the service slotted in.

yes you should be prepared to travel maybe have a night in a travelodge for £40 if you are going to save hundreds,if people are too bone idle to do this then they deserve to be ripped off and i couldn't give a shit if these dealers went bust,95% of them i wouldn't trust to blow my tyres up,with muddysump you don't even have to travel he comes to you but he is so busy you won't get him for 3 months,it's the same principal with the pubs in my town some of them charge £4.30 for a pint of beer and the one that is real busy charges £2.90 why would you go in the other one's.
